C Clark from Canada writes: To the editors: Please note that the terms translator and interpreter are not interchangeable. Translators work with the written language, and interpreters with the spoken language. Though some people do both, translators are not necessarily interpreters, or vice-versa.

Sandra Doblinger from Toronto, Canada writes: For those readers who want to have some fun while exploring new languages, www.bab.la is a great new web site! Currently it offers German/English experiences but is soon launching their Spanish and Chinese portals as well. The idea is to have some while while learning a new language and connect with similar minded people while doing so. If you love to travel to meet people in foreign lands, you don't have to leave your internet connect to do so! I love it! Let me know what you think.

Anton Hazewinkel from Beijing, China writes: Actually there are more competitors in the Chinese market.
Chinaonecall is a new entrant. Longer established are: www.ChinaHelpline.com and www.One2Call.cn . These 2 companies offer the same interpretation service all over China and for considerably lower prices than Chineonecall: no subscription fees and less than 0.70 USD per minute (pre-paid). In addition they provide personal assistance and (One2Call) directory services.
In some cities in China there are local services that are free of charge, but often limited in scope of services.- Posted 22/10/07 at 4:30 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
