  1. The Emperor's Paparazzi from Canada writes:
Didn't Nelson Mandela spend some time in prison????
  2. Anthony B from Sydney, NS, Canada writes: "Criteria used to turn back two anti-war protesters last week would bar thousands, including members of Congress, from entering Canada"

This should interesting. Will CBSA apply the rules consistently or will they "cherry pick" the "criminals" they let in?
  3. Anthony B from Sydney, NS, Canada writes: A spokesman said "It is up to them to satisfy the CBSA officer that they are a genuine visitor coming to Canada for a temporary purpose."

And why are individual border guards the ones interpreting the rules? Whose in charge of this fiasco? Why is Stockwell silent on this issue? Time for some "leaked" memos to surface.
  4. Paul Jones from kitchener, Canada writes: whats the issue? we have the perfect excuse to bar members of Congress from entering Canada! sounds like a win-win to me.
  5. Beatriz Perez-Sanchez from Toronto, Canada writes: It's comforting to know that our border agents would protect us so dilgently against threats such as Tom Lantos and Jesse Jackson. The real threat to Canada's security lies not in a handful of U.S. citizens who have the courage to exercise their right to free speech but in the bilateral and multilateral agreements that have stripped Canada of its sovereignty. Instead of barring peace protesters, we should bar entry to Bush, Cheney and company and to any U.S. government official, past or present, who ever participated in any action that threatened Canada's independence.
  6. Lee Turner from Regent Park, Canada writes: But are we still allowing all those Congress Critters who've been convicted of drunk driving and hiring prostitutes to enter the country, or only those that disagree with the Bush-handler Administration?
  7. Gilgamesh the First from Canada writes: Canada abondoned its role as a peacekeeping nation so let's cheer on Harper's government for being consistent in keeping peacekeepers out.
  8. m mills from Vancouver, Canada writes: A sad and frightening attitude emanating from "the true North strong AND FREE"! To ban people protesting for peace while welcoming politicians who stand in violation of UN sanctions and are engaged in war crimes is a shameful debasement of our country's values. This abandonment of our once-valued standing up for peace is a slur upon the honour of Canada and a betrayal of the purpose for which we commit to peace-keeping around the world.
  9. gordon mcpherson from Ottawa, Canada writes: Alot of murderers running around in sheeps' clothing these days...and the Peacekeepers get the short end of the stick..."the meek shall inherit the Earth"...and the murderers, well we all know where they will be going..."in the final analysis, it is all between you and God, it was never between you and them anyway..."
  10. A E from Mississauga, Canada writes: To Beatriz Perez-Sanchez - come on, buddy!

They are America's resources... they just happen to be located under our land. Luckily our former prime Minister made sure to adjust NAFTA so Canada cannot legally be so greedy with our (oops, America's) resources.
  11. Sylvia Wilson from Canada writes: Wow...think of the millions Canadian taxpayers would save if President Bush who has a DUI record forbade him to enter Canada.

:-) Security costs for that twit to visit us costs taxpayers a small fortune.
  12. A Good Canadian from Canada writes: Let the law be applied Liberally to all who wish to enter our country.
  13. 20 20 from Canada writes: So this is our Canadian sovereignty? This is a product of the SPP where we "harmonize" our regulations to those of the US, and bar entry to democratic dissenters to the Bush administration according to FBI lists. Where Canadian airlines on domestic and international flights that don't land in the US use American no-fly lists. Where our pesticide levels in food get "harmonized" up to higher American levels to give their corporations "free trade". Where our regulatory, environmental, energy, security, and foreign policies get made in the White House.

Sylvia pointed out that Bush as a DUI record. Didn't Dick Cheney shoot someone in the face and tried to hide the fact?

At very least, Harper and Day should correct the border policy and apologize to Ms. Benjamin and Ms. Wright.
  14. Brent Beach from Victoria, Canada writes: The Bush administration has made criminals out of those expressing legitimate dissent.

We hear a lot from Harper about "made in Canada" policies. If we ever needed a made in Canada policy it is a policy on who can and cannot enter Canada. It seems though we have surrendered that bit of sovereignty to the FBI with Canadian border guards having direct access to US data bases!

Would Canadians convicted of trespass in Canada as part of a political protest have their names passed along as criminals to the US border guards?

The "Land of the Free" no longer.

The Security and Prosperity Partnership is beginning to get more sinister. Perhaps we don't need more integration with the US.
  15. Kirk . from Ajax, Canada writes: Seems to me that some diligent reporter could cause the Harper Conservatives a lot of grief by finding out exactly why these individuals were picked out. I love a good conspiracy.

What about monks arrested in Burma? Can they enter Canada?

    This has to be fatening.
  16. Michael Manning from Mississauga, Canada writes: Kirk . from Ajax, Canada writes: "Seems to me that some diligent reporter could cause the Harper Conservatives a lot of grief by finding out exactly why these individuals were picked out. I love a good conspiracy."

Most likely the border guards in question made a mistake and there is now a scramble on to figure out how to save face without penalizing front line workers so that they do their jobs in an even more perfunctory manner than their colleagues who only every want to know whether you bought anything.
  17. Let me tell You How It Is from United States writes: Last time I checked a lot of Americans like the Congressmen don't even want to visit Canada. I'm sure they think it is too boring.
Kind of like President Bush... why visit Canada. It's like President Nixon on his recorded tapes from 1971 released last year was heard saying something like "I need to visit Ottawa and Canada like I need a hole in the head" followed by some snickering and prophanities to much applause.
  18. Let me tell You How It Is from United States writes: I like all the sarcastic comments about "land of the free" and "true, north strong and not free"... Well state the obvious because if you haven't figured out since 9/11 everything is changed and won't be going back to the way it was before. Anyway things weren't all that free before anyway until after the 1960's. Up until the 1960's a lot of people were barred from Canada due to race, religion, political affiliation.
So the decades from the 1960's until 2001 were pretty enlightened and free however all these loser, clown, religious zealots ruined it for everyone. Way to go religious clown loser zealots.
  19. Don Bryant from Calgary, Canada writes: We have enough home-grown bleeding heart lefties in Canada as it is and this kind of rabble should most definitely NOT be allowed in. Let them go somewhere more appropriate to their political leanings - Cuba, for instance, or maybe North Korea.
  20. m dooley from Lower Mainland, Canada writes: Don Bryant, we already have enough neanderthal, backward thinking half-wits in Canada but we still let you stay.
  21. Brian Sexsmith from Toronto, Canada writes: The Emperor's Paparazzi is quite right. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison. Ronald Reagan called him a terrorist and said Mandela should spend his entire life in prison. The evil Liberals made him an honourary Canadian citizen in 2001. Perhaps Canada's New Government should rescind his citizenship and bar him from entering the country. Let's show the world just how backward Canadians can be!
  22. Bergeil DeBungie from Victoria, Canada writes: Brian Sexsmith is either drunk or just plain stupid. If you want entry into Canada and have a criminal record, just make a multi platinum album of any sort, these people get in all the time
  23. Chris E. from vancouver, Canada writes: The varied pacifists who call themselves 'protesters for peace' have less moral authority than some of the people they oppose. They should drop the misnomer 'peace', as pacifist policies of accommodation, surrender and appeasement will lead to anything but peace.
  24. Chris Mason from Toronto, writes: I missed a close friends wedding in Mexico last year because 19 years ago I thought it was a good idea to open the door of a shed in the back of a restaurant and take the empties I found back to the beer store. I was arrested and found guilty of theft under $1000.00 i.e. shoplifting. I was denied entry at the airport. I have a full pardon which I carried. which the usa does not recognize. My point in all this?
WHATS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER.

Sounds like a win-win to me as well
