Former PQ leader Boisclair leaving politics: report

THE CANADIAN PRESS

MONTREAL — Former Parti Québécois leader Andre Boisclair is quitting politics.

Mr. Boisclair told the Journal de Montreal he will leave his seat in Quebec's legislature on Nov. 15.

In the story published Monday, the 41-year-old says he will focus on a career in the private sector.

Under Mr. Boisclair, the PQ finished a disappointing third place in the March provincial election when it won only 36 of the 125 seats.

The member for Pointe-aux-Trembles resigned as party leader six weeks after the election.

He also accused the man he succeeded as PQ leader, former Quebec premier Bernard Landry, of being disloyal to himself and the party.

Mr. Boisclair says he has no regrets about his “political adventure.”

Pauline Marois, who Mr. Boisclair defeated in the separatist party's 2005 leadership race, was acclaimed PQ chief in June.
