  1. Billiam Smith from Juba, Canada writes: But of course we know that global warming isn't the reason that Venice is at risk; the fact that it's built on a sinking swamp is of somewhat greater concern.
  2. Jesse H from Canada writes: It would have been nice if the global warming debate had been left out of this article.

For those of you who have not had the privilege of visiting this magnificent, yet filthy city, global warming is not why it’s in trouble. The city is literally built on a sinking foundation of wood posts in the middle of a swamp. Rising oceans will only speed up the inevitable; if ocean levels were to remain the same, Venice would still face the same watery fate.
  3. Roy Anderson from Mt Brydges., Canada writes: Good luck with that saving Venice from flooding business!!! Flooding, while present, is not the cause of the problem but, the result.

The problem, apparently, and a long time problem it appears, is that Venice is SINKING!

Once again, the snake-oil environmentalists have got hold of the wrong end of the stick and, AGAIN, have sought to extort money from the gullible in the world to save the slow, steady, but unstoppable sinking of much of Venice into the Adriatic.

Never mind save our world - I say may heaven save us from the environmentalists, whose greed and stupidity will make paupers of us all ere long!
  4. Dan H from Alta now, Canada writes: I have a big problem with digitally altered photographs being used in a 'reputable' newspaper in order to sensationalize an issue. Whatever your opinions are of global warming (and whether it may be the cause of potential flooding in Venice), I'm pretty sure we can all agree that we can use the facts without the hype or the fear mongering.
  5. Rollo Tomasi from Belgium writes: The reality is that Venice should have silted up generations ago. Now that the city formally introduced two tier pricing, local and tourist, I cannot see myself returning.
