Divided duties foster infections, MDs say

OTTAWA — Canada's multitiered health-care system creates a welcoming environment for the spread of infectious diseases say doctors who urge the federal government to develop a national strategy to combat the growing threat. "There is a traditional divide, out of habit, between hospitals and public health officials," Raphael Saginur, president of the Canadian Foundation for Infectious Diseases, said after a press conference yesterday.
