B.C., Ontario lead way in police force growth

OTTAWA — Canada's complement of police officers recorded its second-largest annual increase over the past 30 years this year. Statistics Canada reported Friday that the country's police forces employed 64,134 officers on May 15, up 2.7 per cent from the previous year. Ontario and British Columbia alone accounted for nearly two-thirds of the total gain of about 1,700 male and female officers.
