Scottish actor James McAvoy had never met Keira Knightley before they arrived on the set of Atonement, a lush, literary drama based on Ian McEwan's acclaimed 2001 novel.To familiarize themselves with the script, the era (the story takes place in 1930s/1940s England) and one another, the pair often holed up at Knightley's London house to watch old movies such as Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca and David Lean's Brief Encounter.
