Charest disputes amount of Schreiber donation

OTTAWA — Karlheinz Schreiber and Jean Charest both agree that the German-Canadian businessman gave the politician a sizable campaign donation. But it appears $20,000 has been lost in the translation. Mr. Schreiber volunteered at a parliamentary hearing yesterday that he donated $30,000 in cash to Mr. Charest's 1993 campaign for the leadership of the federal Progressive Conservative Party. Mr. Charest said his campaign received only $10,000.
