It seemed to come out of nowhere, a nugget of information dropped casually into his rambling testimony before Parliament's ethics committee. But it is a fair wager that Karlheinz Schreiber, who had promised "fireworks" at his second committee appearance on Tuesday, was aware of the reaction he would generate by volunteering that he had donated a large sum of money to Jean Charest's failed 1993 Progressive Conservative leadership campaign.
