The lighting guru of Notre Dame

PARIS — When the mayor of Paris inaugurated a new lighting design for Notre Dame Cathedral last week, the focus was inevitably on the cathedral's newly lit yellow stone walls and imposing Gothic architecture. But the real star of the show was François Jousse. Mr. Jousse has the opaque title of chief engineer for doctrine, expertise and technical control for Paris. What that means is he's responsible for lighting 300 of the city's monuments.
