Backlogs will mire some hospitals for more than a month
It will be at least a week before the Chalk River reactor can produce a steady flow of high-quality medical isotopes and at least a month before some hospitals clear a backlog of patients waiting for cancer diagnoses and other treatments, officials said yesterday.
Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. would not say yesterday when the 50-year-old reactor would be restarted - as ordered by emergency legislation introduced by an irate government and that became law last night.
