Transit cash gives Toronto budget boost

In a major breakthrough, Toronto will be spared its annual trek to beg money from Queen's Park to balance the city budget, thanks to provincial cash for transit announced yesterday. For Mayor David Miller, pilloried by critics for his move to impose new city taxes and for his failure to hector the McGuinty Liberals in the fall provincial election, the economic statement by Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan was vindication.
