Outside the box ... and the frame

Being the only Jew in your high school in Brownsville, Tex., in the mid-1960s - and a Brooklyn-born Jew at that - well, that's gotta do something to a guy. Precisely what that something is, of course, is up for debate. It could explain why Julian Schnabel, on a warm, sunny afternoon during this year's Toronto International Film Festival, was wandering the lobby of a Toronto hotel wearing blue silk pyjamas and sneakers as his apparent ensemble du jour.
