Paul Bowler from Canberra, Australia writes: What we need is a voice-activated Harmony One device, built into, say, the TV. No more looking for the hand-helds, no more looking for replacement batteries ( "I just bought an on-special 20-pack of those last week - where are they?) and, with a voice-recognition facility, you could stop the kids from turning the system on! The technology is there ( think Star Trek or Star Wars) - if Mr Scott and Mr Spock can do it, why cannot I? (For added security, one should be able to program the system to accept only a (fakish) broad Scottish accent coupled with an unassailable logic in the commands!)

Damned if you do from Canada writes: Where's Jack Been for the last 3 years!?
Harmony Remotes are the greatest thing since the invention of rabbit ears! I've had one since BEFORE they got swallowed up by Logitech-when it was just 2 guys with a Big Idea. I wonder if this tech reporter still uses tin cans and a string to call home...
OTOH, GET a Harmony. I swear you will never look back...- Posted 10/01/08 at 6:49 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bob Fugger from Victoria, Canada writes: I can see why they were blowing them out over the holidays, now. I agree with Damned - these things have been out for years. This one looks a bit slicker, is all. The functionality is probably close to the same. Mine (Harmony 880) will switch to the propert input, even if it is in a consecutive list (people who are controlling Toshiba CRTs will know what I mean). It even troubleshoots on the fly and has an amazing troubleshooter when you plug in. Hell, I can even buy lamp modules and control my lighting. Best $149.99 I ever spent.

Mike Krafchik from Toronto, Canada writes: As some of the other posters have intimated already - if you have had one of these beauties already, you already know how important they are. There is a help button on them as well that will let my wife figure out what went wrong. Priceless!

Janice Cooper from West Kootenays, British Columbia, Canada writes: We bought one of these Harmony universal remotes with our new tv purchase. Wow, my husband was pumped to think he could have control of his little universe, instead of 4 or 5 remotes.
Alas, it would not work on our other electronics, which were too outdated to be compatible. After much ado he went back to his multiple remote world.
Now that we have purchased new stuff, he may be tempted to give it another try.
Personally I don't care since I only get to use the remote(s) when he is out of the house!- Posted 11/01/08 at 12:52 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
