Cinematic signs of an American identity crisis

This evening, the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, opens with a screening of In Bruges, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason as Irish hit men lost in the medieval Belgian town. Though the movie has such classic Hollywood elements as gangsters, guns and slapstick comedy, it's an unusually international choice to open a festival that is usually seen as quintessentially American.
