‘Too good to be true' Thomson ivory declared genuine

LONDON — The visitors at the Courtauld Gallery in London stand with their noses nearly touching the glass cases containing medieval ivories, the better to see a saint's finger smaller than a grain of rice, or the howl of pain carved on a sinner's face, the circumference of a pencil eraser.
