  1. Chris H from Canada writes: "Contraception is used, by and large, by a healthy population and so the bar for its safety should be higher."

What? I don't understand. Does this mean that products for young healthy people should be tested more to ensure higher safety, or less, because we can take it if they mess up? I wish these articles were written, and not copy-pasted from press releases. Perhaps there might be some sort of hypothesis, train of thought, analysis... anything.
  2. Leaving Sooon from Canada writes: There are factors that "healthy" women could have that increase the chances for blood clots.

Thrombophilia genetic disorders are NOT exceedingly rare (although most doctors are not aware of them), and cause people, male and female, to become prone to blood clots.

I have one called "Factor V Leiden" and other than this, I have no outward symptoms and am healthy. However, now I cannot take hormonal birthcontrol.

The only way to have this diagnosed is by blood test. Although these disorders are purely genetic. My mother's paternal family all died of strokes and blood clots - my mother herself got a large blood clot when pregnant after several miscarriages.

Review your family history and talk to your doctor.
  3. Patrick Knudsen from Canada writes: Hhhmm, yet another drug not tested thoroughly. Drug companies are such parasites, when they could so much good if they were not run by bottom line sycophants.
  4. Laura W from Toronto, Canada writes: I am a patch user, and as such have followed these stories with an obsessive flare. My friends ask me why I'm still on the patch - I can't help but point out the scale we're speaking about; from about 4 deaths in 100 000 for the pill to 8 with the patch. I'll take those odds.
