Rocket Doctor from Vanc, Canada writes: 'It may sound obnoxious in print, but Mr. Vaynerchuk carries it off with wit and charm.'
I'm happy you wrote that, Beppe, 'cause i was thinking precisely how obnoxious he sounded...and then i started to hear this Belarus accent...and oh, it wasn't a pretty image...think Wild and Crazy Guys from Saturday Night Live, decades ago. But i am perfectly willing to accept that he carries it off with with and charm and will check out his videos.- Posted 23/01/08 at 11:55 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

ROBERT FERGUSON from Oakville, Canada writes: I've watched Gary's show on the internet and he is quite engaging. He pulls no punches when evaluating a wine and is not shy to call a spade a spade. Too many reviewers provide bland tasting notes that leave you wondering if they would buy the bottle with their own money. My only issue with his show is that I wish we could get the wines he reviews at the LCBO. I have checked the product listings and the LCBO frequently does not carry the bottles he reviews.

Jordan Pohn from writes: Actually Jagermeister shooters might not be incorrect. Jager-bomb, a mixture of Jagermeister and Root-Beer is a pretty popular shooter in my student-aged household (20 - 25 year old guys and girls). I'm sure both Jagermeister shooters and shots are popular options with the YouTube crowd, although I prefer neat'ish Islay scotches. Scotch prices are already climbing in price quite a bit, but I'd love to hear of somebody doing something similar for scotch and other spirits that often get a bad rap as being too seedy or pretentious. Too bad fresh minds like Gary Vaynerchuk aren't allowed to open up specialist shops in Ontario thanks to the LCBO.

Puntal Puntal from Calgary, Canada writes: I thought Jager bombs (at least in Calgary) are composed of a shot of Jagermeister dropped into a half-full rocks glass of Red Bull (which makes it taste like those "bottlecaps" candies from childhood)...I'm sure root beer would be a great match too.
Here's hoping Beppi does another Scotch column soon...- Posted 23/01/08 at 2:52 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Thumb Sucker from Toronto, Canada writes: You thought right, that would be a Jagerbomb.
If you like rootbeer, try dropping a shot of amaretto into a caffery's or a boddington's. (not a full pint mind you, a smaller amount that you can drink all in one go).- Posted 23/01/08 at 3:32 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

All Canadian, All American, from The Canadian sector of America, Canada writes: The wine industry is on the decline, too many wines on the shelf that are not worth drinking. What we really need is a new industry promoting no alcohol zero calorie great tasting mineral water beverages for the dinner table. We need more variety in this area.

ex banker from St. John's, Canada writes: The wine industry is not on the decline. Yes there are a huge number of bad wines out there on the market but there are also a very large number of good wines from up-and-coming wine regions like Argentina, South Africa, Washington State and heck even Canada. More people are discovering wines and enjoying them, and more product is flooding the market. You can get decent bottles for $13-17 nowadays. Back in the 80's you needed to spend about the same amount of money to get the same quality, so prices have actually dropped relative to inflation.

Bill Needle from Canada writes: It is well proven that wine ratings are directly proportional to the cost of the wine and nothing else.
The business is a fraud.- Posted 29/01/08 at 10:22 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
