Gabriel Stefan from Canada writes: I disagree, Portal was innovative and new and came from a small group of individuals that had an idea and were given funding by Valve. The was extremely successful and actually was GFWs magazine game of the year.
I also think with online distribution really coming to the forefront small indie companies will have a much greater ability to get their games out there.
