Europe, U.S. recognize Kosovo independence
PRISTINA — Major European powers and Washington said Monday that they would recognize Kosovo as a sovereign nation, a day after the province's ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence from Serbia.
Kosovo's leaders sent letters to 192 countries seeking formal recognition. Britain, France, Italy and Germany endorsed the declaration.
