Carolyn Bongiorno from Glenham,NY, United States writes: Haven't seen Persepolis, but I agree that its status as foreign-language is being held against it.
There are a lot of beautiful dresses tonight, and Jennifer Garner's diamond necklace alone is heist-worthy.
I'm pulling for you, Daniel Day-Lewis. I've adored you since My Beautiful Laundrette.- Posted 24/02/08 at 9:12 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

ollie oh from Toronto, Canada writes: Love the old flashbacks the most...wish there was more of them. and, on another note, were the actors banned from mentioning the war in Iraq this year? Just that one odd mention (forget the guy
's name) as he left the podium saying something about dreams-- ending with 'Iraq....dreams' ?? What was that all about? Also, I must comment on Jennifer Hudson. Talented and lovely but WHO told her that white dress looked good on her?- Posted 24/02/08 at 10:16 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Diane Thibault from Toronto, Canada writes: Marion Cotillard totally deserves the best actress Oscar, though I agree La Vie En Rose was not the greatest movie.

Alex D from Ottawa, Canada writes: Classic Stewart: 'That guy was so arrogant.' deadpanned beautifully. Best line of the night I think.

ollie oh from Toronto, Canada writes: huh? Vils, that is an odd request. Like you have some sort of vertical dyslexia. TOP of the page? maybe it's just me, but that idea seems really messed up. But BACK to the matter at hand. good acceptance speech for best documentary. Then that bit from Elton John (among others) but i couldn't hear a word he said for staring at that idiotic sticky-upy-hair. grow up already.

ollie oh from Toronto, Canada writes: well, diablo was definitely the highlight of the show in my opinion. Overall, the whole thing seemed a little flat this year, then again they threw this together in very little time. Fun reading your comments jennie, tralee and especially Liam. love your sense of humour. see you next year?

JOHN GREEN from London, United Kingdom writes: Ten Oscar entries from Canada and comming home with zero shows the true strength of Canadian talent on an international stage. Canadian arts are just not recognized by the gobal community. Maybe thats got something to do with the fact that despite the Nobel Prize in Literature being around for over 100 years, Canada has never won one of those either.

leo bloom from radisson, sask, Canada writes: You might be right there John Green...we don't have a Nobel prize for literature and I think the last time I saw one of your posts you did enighten us, at some great length I might add, about the Limey contribution to the Western Canon and blah, blah, blah, all the UK Nobel winners...BUT, did you know that in Canada we have something called the Black Jaques Shellac awards for persisent clodhopping and I have it on very good authority that you are a front-runner! You will be notified by a soft cow-patty to the forehead. You, you lucky duck, you!

TOM SMITHIES from TORONTO, Canada writes: This years Oscar's were as fascinating, entertaining and eye catching as usual - the International selection of winners from Ireland-England, the UK and Spain, etc., and no Oscars to Canada with 10 entries shines light on the fact that on the International stage Canada is way far behind.
Sorry folks but I would have to agree with the earlier comment from John Greene from London. A thimble full of the arts in the the UK has more class than 1000 cubic miles of Canada. Canadians need to get over themselves.
As for the great province of Saskatchewan a friend of mine from Montreal once told me the Quebecois local joke: Q. "What is the difference between Saskatchewan and a tub of Yogurt?" A. "The yogurt has a culture".
It sounds a lot better in French. Go back to sleep leo bloom (from radisson, sask)- Posted 27/02/08 at 8:56 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
