If the Ottawa Senators 5-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs wasn’t a wakeup call last night, it should have been. The situation with the struggling conference champs has reached a crisis situation.
They have been dropped from the top step in the NHL’s Eastern Conference standings and it’s simply not because they are going through a rough patch.
The Senators essentially have been a .500 club in their past 30 games at 14-13-3. Their provincial rivals have gone 13-15-2 during the same period and the Leafs are 12th in the East. A glance at the standings this morning has the Senators only nine points out of ninth place in the East. They need to be players in the trade market today.

Vincent Pigeon from Vancouver, Canada writes: I live in Vancouver, but am a diehard Senators fan (who I'd cheer for if sens and Nucks met in the Stanley Cup final???). Unfortunately, I predict the Sens will not only not win the Eastern conference, they won't even make the playoffs. As nice as John Paddock is, I'm sorry, but he's not cutting it. Bryan, it's time to make the move, either you or Bob Hartley behind the bench.
