J B from Canada writes: "Analysts believe EA, the world's largest independent video game producer, made its move because it grew tired of Take-Two's competing franchises dragging down prices and poaching sales."
Then stop making unspectacular sports games with huge loading times and poor gameplay. EA seems to be using the same engine for all of their games, lazily programming some new gimmick then rushing it out to the public. If they want to prevent Take-Two from "poaching" sales, then make better games! As if the only option is to bankrupt or buy-out, more like a greedy, corporate cop-out.- Posted 26/02/08 at 9:13 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Nathan Cool from Vancouver, Canada writes: J B is spot on. EA's games drag the whole industry down with their horrible graphics and game play.
Their games are remarkable only because they are so bad. It's akin to a Hollywood studio making "Independence Day". Pure tripe whose advertising hype drowns out more talented efforts from smaller studios.
This buyout would be bad for the industry. I hope it fails.- Posted 26/02/08 at 9:24 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Yeah. They haven't made any decent games, have they?
Oh wait. The Battlefield series, the Burnout series, the Sim series, the Madden series, the Tiger Woods series (minus 08), the Def Jam series, the FIFA series, the Fight Night series, etc. Even Command and Conquer 3 was really good.
Where did this bad reputation come from?- Posted 26/02/08 at 12:09 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Michael Tripper from Vancouver, Canada writes: just echoing other comments that EA produces crap - it's as if a direct-to-video film company bought Warner or some other quality studio.
I despise sports games as a rule, cuz you know, you really should get outside and do them in real life, but Take-Two's noway-in-this-world games hit the spot dead-on for the medium.- Posted 26/02/08 at 12:15 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Joseph Whistle from Canada writes: I lost interest in video games years ago. Fantastic technology with amazing 3D detail. But game play itself? Those programmers wouldn't know how program good game play if they fell over it.

Joseph Whistle from Canada writes: I just checked out Spoke. Yes! This actually looks really interesting! Check out the video "Robin Williams Plays Spore" on youtube.
What turned me off with games mainly, is the thought of mindless drone teenagers aimlessly staring at a screen while playing yet another first person shooter with a gun in hallways and corridors. Then the only imagination they have is to keep making those same games more and more violent.
And then those kong fu style fighting games are sooooo incredibly lame and stupid. Games made me puke, I just couldn't stomach walking into a games store, it's that bad.
Now, I like games like Red Alert and Command and Conquer, it's not that I don't like games.
Anyway, Spoke does look interesting, I'm envisioning a world where you walk around and see all the other "wii" like concoctions others made...- Posted 27/02/08 at 1:16 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Eric the Red from Uzbekistan writes: Red Alert series were great.
The original Sims was fun, but after the 95,600th expansion for Sims 2, E.A can't seem to quit milking the franchise.
Nathan: EA published Crysis, Mohaa and AVP games. And Need for Speed games. and NHL games.
Produces crap? Any of you chumps play Medal of Honor?- Posted 27/02/08 at 2:20 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

The Wight from Canada writes: "Any of you chumps play Medal of Honor?"
Yep, sure did. On the first play through, it borked a RAM stick of mine. I thought it was an unrelated hardware failure, so I just bought more RAM and tried again ... same spot in the game, same RAM failure. Still didn't recognize the tie and so lent the game to a buddy ... same spot, HIS RAM failed.
Talked to EA about getting some form of compensation (no) or a new disc (no) and so left the series for good. Between that and Madden's "catch up script" that drove me insane, I haven't played much in the way of EA since.- Posted 27/02/08 at 6:22 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
