Wide-awake takes on the American dream

Or is it a post-utopian society that relies too heavily on commercial goods to satisfy, however superficially, our manufactured needs? Glimpses of both theories are on view in Vancouver right now, in work by two artists with strong ties to the U.S. West Coast.
