  1. David H from Calgary, Canada writes: This continent is a lost cause.....let these tribes work out. If the West helps we are labeled as colonialists and outsiders.
  2. Right On the Left Coast from Vancouver, Canada writes: Two problems David H: 1) Moral: we (Whitey/Westie) played a big part in putting Africa in the position it is in, and 2) Practical: With the concept of the Global Village, it's quite possible they can take us down with them. 9/11 and AIDS should tell you that.
  3. J Savage from Alberta, Canada writes: I'm just curious how having 100 million people out of 1 billion works out to 1 in 4. Any ideas?
  4. larry hallatt from Nanaimo, Canada writes: If you knew anything about history...you would know ever nation or tribe has been in conflict and either conquered or was conquered by another. We all are Heinz 57's mixed creatures, there are no pure tribes or religions.

The colonial crap one constantly hears when one talks about Africa or Native populations in North America is one more cop out by people. Cambodia experienced a far worse tragedy than most people, yet is getting on with life. Europe in years past was aways at war...but today is increasingly civilized.

After half a century of black independence 95% of black dominated Africa is a mess with tribe and dictator killing the next group.

Tribalism simply is another word for racism. It blooms in all cultures and unfortunately is strongest today in Africa. African tribes are no different than other groups, they colonized and terrorized the next group.

In North America it was a custom that your Native tribe fought and killed, raped and plunder the next tribe.

It is time to get rid of excuses. Zimbaweans today would prefer Mugabe taking Ian Smith's place and Ian Smith retaking the role of President. Zimbaweans would rather today be Rhodesians and would prefer a dead President over the current tyrant.

Yugoslavia dead when tribalism reared. Kenya may also die if people do not believe in one nation of equals.
  5. El Christador from Vancouver, Canada writes: I don't think colonialism is a root cause here. This is pretty much the way humans have always behaved.

The article illustrates what can be a 'drawback' to communication technology: people use it to communicate. Often when people communicate the effect is not benign. Easier communication facilitates all interpersonal human activities, including the ugly ones.
  6. Jon Ballendine from Saskatoon, Canada writes: J Savage ... works out real easy ... 1 in 4 in Kenya, 1 in 10 in Africa

Interesting to see that someone is trying to filter the messages. Not to say that it'll ever fully work. Best one can hope for from a filter is that it will slow things down for a short while until someone figures it out and changes the language. In the long run, all they'll have is a badly bloated filter which will invariably catch more legitimate messages than target messages. That said, save perhaps for the stronger racial epithets, they'd do better to keep any filter system temporary.

It would, however, be nice if somebody there could form a party based on politics as opposed to race. Ethnic strife should be expected when party lines match racial lines because the ruling party will inevitably decide that their race/tribe deserves more than the others' races/tribes. Imagine if the White People's Party tried to run the US. They would have full blown civil war all over again.
