Oil's surge hits U.S., lifts Canada

OTTAWA — The U.S. economy is showing the increasing strain of the stunning rise in crude oil prices, which topped another record yesterday and is contributing to both growing inflation and slowing growth south of the border. But the broader Canadian economy appears to be more resilient, thanks to booming energy exports and a strong Canadian dollar.
