  1. D. Day from Canada writes: Normally I would write this off to another frustrated husband seeking a thrill - But Mr. morality needs to have his own book thrown at him...by the way, his wife is totally hot. What's he thinking about?
  2. Holston Lane from Toronto, Canada writes: Hypocrite. Holier Than Thou Hypocrite.
This has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with hypocrisy.
  3. D I from Toronto, Canada writes: Yes it's definately funny to see Mr. Righteous caught in this situation but I personally don't have any problem with it. Thing is, about 60% of married couples cheat, so do they all get fired from their jobs? If him having an affair or paying for sex doesn't affect his job and assuming he didn't pay for the girl from taxpayer funds, I don't see how it's any of anyone's business except his wife and family Kinda like when Bill was having visitors in the Oral Office when he was Prez. And I agree, Mrs. Spitzer is really hot. His poor kids are going to really pay the price for this one.
  4. An Thornton from Canada writes: Holston Lane, I agree. This is not a private matter....not while you hold public office.
  5. Midtown Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: Moral High Ground! Ha look at you now!
  6. W ho from Canada writes: Once again, Holier than Thou is a Hypocrite
  7. Unabashed Opinion from Toronto, Canada writes: Why is this a public matter? If he didn't use public funds for his peccadillo, it's none of the public's concern, despite the desire of people everywhere, it seems, for schadenfreude.

Spitzer didn't prosecute companies for immorality - he prosecuted them aggressively for robbing investors blind. Those who cry hypocrisy and holier-than-thou in this forum should beware of the tar brush they themselves wield.
  8. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Spitzer should register Republican . . . Sen. David Vitter (R-Je susland . . . actually: Louisiana) hires prostitutes and gets praised by the Senate Republican Leadership, and he's still serving in the Senate, a valued member of the Senate Christian Republican Team. And Vitter evades prosecution, even after he admits hiring the prostitutes. "Christian Family Values". . . . HA HA !
  9. D. L. from Toronto, Canada writes: He never showed an ounce of mercy or compassion for others' mistakes or misjudgements. Hard to find sympathy for him. Very sad for the kids of "client 9". His wife will hopefully get over it.
  10. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: . . . Vitter gives a VERY bad name to those Christians who actually, uh, "believe" in "Thou shalt not commit adultery" (Book of Exodus, Chapter 20).
  11. T TFD from Canada writes: David Vitter, Larry Craig and a whole host of others better tender their resignation before hand....fairs fair.
  12. Jeff Holmes from Big Smoke, Canada writes: Way to go Andy Garrett. That's what we North of the Border types call gutter politics - groundless inuendo intended to smear a pols name. Sources are suggesting - indeed? What sources? Rush? Greta? Nancy Grace?

    Please!!
  13. Simon Croswell from Toronto, Canada writes: It was ridiculous for Spritzer to prosecute prostitution rings, but it is equally ridiculous to prosecute Spritzer over some harmless whoring. Please leave the man alone and reform the law.
  14. Simon Hum from Canada writes: Heh - start an illegal war based on "fixed" intelligence, the media goes meh, carry on, but caught with a sex related scandal between two consenting adults or in a transaction of the worlds oldest profession, then watch out - priceless!
  15. The Economic Hitman jr. from Vancouver, Canada writes: First of all, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Eliot "Ness" Spitzer crusaded his way through his years with the A-G office, and gave no quarter to those being prosecuted. He was leading the witch hunt through Wall Street and points beyond with a puritanical singlemindedness. People in glass houses, isn't that what they say?

Also, to those posters who view this as a private matter, that is not true. The reports are stating the Spitzer contacted this NY company to arrange for a call girl to meet him in Washington. That, allegedly, constitutes transporting a person across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, and it is a crime.

Lastly, at $5500/hr who is screwing who?
  16. nick oliver from halifax, ns, Canada writes: with such important cases like tommy chong's online bong sales and elliot spitzer's sexual indiscretions (which aren't even close to Bush' coke-and-hooch indiscretions & subsequent NG desertion), it's no wonder the FBI haven't had time to find osama bin laden yet. clearly, high class prostitutes and their paying customers constitute a much bigger threat to the continent than committed terrorists. it's an election year. what could be more crucial than destroying your political enemies instead of your admitted military enemies? keep up the heckuva job, brownies!
  17. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Unabashed Opinion....in the United States I believe it is a serious crime to induce/arrange for a prostitute to cross state lines in order to ply her/his "trade" and is subject to imprisonment up to 20 years..so public funds or no public funds his "arrangements" were likely breaking federal law and as a former prosector he would be very much aware of this law..

Having said all that if he is involved how many other very high profile people just like him are in the same boat and sweating bullets this a.m. Everyone needs to look in their own closet and ask themselves the question if certain aspects of my life became public how would "I" fair? It is easy to throw stones and cast aspersions but how many people are truly "pure"???
  18. Kim Philby from Ottawa, Canada writes: Sex "scandal"? I'd call it that if he were caught with a sheep or a 12-year-old girl, but with another (consenting) adult hardly rates as a sex scandal.

It does expose him as a hypocrite, though.
  19. Prairie Boy from Canada writes: Ms. Clinton doesn't want his endorsement anymore. That'll teach him.
  20. Dan Nyznik from Keene, ON, Canada writes: One-thousand dollars an hour, eh? I'd like to see what SHE looks like.
  21. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Andy: . . . Did Jeff Gannon work for this group ?
  22. Hydrogen Bob from Toronto, Canada writes: The list of Mr. Spitzer's accomplishments for which ordinary citizens have benfited is long and impactful. Heck, this Canadian got a cheque from his mutual fund company because of his actions against late trading. The OSC and SEC were asleep. His actions embarassed regulators and the financial services industry to clean up shop (well, at least against some of the most flagrant abuses against small investors). What he did was wrong and he knew it. But I actually feel sorry for the guy and I worry that future crusaders will feel a chill worried about unforseen consequences in the future for the actions. The FBI investigation entraping Mr. Spitzer may have been coincidental, perhaps we will never know.
He needs to be held accountable, but not to loose his job. He will face his electorate when his term is up and they can decide his fate. Mr. Spitzer, do not resign, but find away to make amends to your family and your constituents.
  23. Martyn Whitt from toronto, Canada writes: What's that saying something like "careful how you treat people on the way up because you'll meet them on the way down".
  24. Robin Adams from Ottawa, Canada writes: So what do you get from a $5500 hooker? A band playing???

If "absolute discretion" was assured... I think he should ask for his money back!
  25. Robin Adams from Ottawa, Canada writes: So my understanding of this story is that for any Pols visiting washington, American or otherwise, you really should shop locally....
  26. Boomer AB from Canada writes: I wonder if so many people would be willing to give him a pass if he was a Republican. To the best of my knowledge banging hookers is still against the law.
  27. john doe from toronto, Canada writes: The FBI actually set up a wiretap and a sting operation in Washington D.C. -- to stop a prostitute???? The mind boggles.

Footsteps away from the most corrupt, partisan, and out-and-out immoral US administrations in modern memory, and they're chasing consensual adults, one of whom pays another for sex.

Mere days after Bush vetoes a bill to ban government TORTURE, and people are talking about sexual "immorality"?

Thank God Canada is not yet run by bible-thumpers (though there is a disturbing shift in that direction by the current minority government.)
  28. Proctor Gamble from Police Brutality R Us, Canada writes: The Economic Hitman jr. from Vancouver, Canada writes: First of all, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He was leading the witch hunt through Wall Street and points beyond with a puritanical singlemindedness. People in glass houses, isn't that what they say?

    ===================

I find that sort of comment very strange. Did Spitzer ever crusade against someone who didn't deserve the scrutiny? Did he convict people wrongfully?

Or do people making this kind of comment really want to stand up and support corporate wrongdoing? Do people like Economic here really LIKE being cheated and gouged? What the hell???
  29. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Boomer: . . . why is it OK with conservatives when Republicans do the same thing ? Sen. Vitter, Sen. Craig, et. al.

What are your thoughts about this, please.
  30. Shawn W from Toronto, Canada writes: When I first glanced at this story I was sure that Mr. Spitzer must have been RUNNING the prostitution ring and that was what the big uproar was about. Then I find out he hired a prostitute. Big deal. If anything his wife should be pissed and everyone should go back to their business. Americans are so bloody uptight about sex!
  31. D I from Toronto, Canada writes: John Doe from Toronto - it was an IRS investigation into money laundering. The FBI didn't come after him specifically for the paid sex. His bad luck got him caught up into an IRS/tax evasion probe of the escort company he contracted services from.
  32. Fred Stubbs from Burlington, Canada writes: You people are missing the point. Spitzer was the initial target of an investigation that started when banks noticed the frequent transfers from several accounts and filed suspicious activity reports with the Internal Revenue Service. The accounts were traced back to Spitzer, prompting public corruption investigators to open an inquiry. This was never about prostitution. Sex sells so the media decided to run with that aspect of the story.
  33. Frank The Tank from Argentina writes: I think there is a major difference between defrauding investors of millions and paying someone for sex.

He may have broke an ancient and ridiculous law but i dont think that qualifies him as a hyprocrite. He's done so much good for the people and he's probably still the best man for the job
  34. Free Spirit from Halifax, Canada writes: Wow. His entire career and future life completely ruined. Now... Consider what would have happened to this man had been President and had declared a war based on faked intelligence, and illegally invaded a sovereign country, killing tens of thousands of innocent people, making two million people into refugees, sacrificing the lives of 4,000 US soldiers and wounding and maiming 30,000 US soldiers, and costing the US treasury upwards of $2 trillion -- what would happen to him ? Nothing ! Absolutely nothing. He would keep his job and even be praised by millions of Americans. Amazing isn't it ? Only in the USA...
  35. Robin Adams from Ottawa, Canada writes: Or more likely, the FBI keeps an open watch file on prominent Democrats hoping to catch them in some muck...

I wonder if Obama ever had a similar indiscretion just how fast and "IRS Audit" would show up on him...

It might sound a little conspirational but I put nothing past the Bush Whitehouse. Also remember, it is an election year in the USA... Yanks love bedroom politics...
  36. Moose Lion from Canada writes: Proctor Gamble from Police Brutality R Us, Canada writes:

"Did Spitzer ever crusade against someone who didn't deserve the scrutiny? Did he convict people wrongfully?"

Strictly a matter of opinion, but I would argue that yes, he did 'convict' someone that didn't deserve the scrutiny. Dick Grasso and Hank Greenberg are two names that come to mind. But of course, given that these were very, very rich men, Spitzer looks to be the good guy.

I couldn't be happier that he's now getting torched for something that really shouldn't be a big deal at all.
  37. R. Antifimay from barrie, Canada writes: Goodness gracious! A dishonest hypocrite polititian. Thats hard to believe.

Isn't "Honourable" a part of their title?
  38. Sue City from Canada writes: Wow, that's one serious power tripper.
  39. Boomer AB from Canada writes: It's not OK Mr Justice, doesn't make a difference who you are. Just seems that a lot more people on the thread seem to be willing to brush it off and I'm just wondering if it's because he's a Democrat. His conduct would be as slimy no matter what party he belonged to.
  40. Slippery Slope from Canada writes: As the Spitzers wallows.
  41. Go Oilers Go! from Canada writes: Big deal he got a hooker.
  42. Sue City from Canada writes: The late-night comics are going to have a field day with this one.
  43. Mr. Justice from Canada writes: Boomer: Thanks. "His conduct would be as slimy no matter what party he belonged to" = what I think.
  44. Holston Lane from Toronto, Canada writes: "Unabashed Opinion"? This IS a public matter because prostitution is illegal. Like it or not. Spitzer rabidly pursued and prosecuted those guilty of prostitution. He did nothing to legalize the occupation.

He was involved in an activity that is run by organized crime.

He is not only a hypocrite, he is a compromised hypocrite. The mob controls him, they knew his secrets.

SPITZER believes that what he did was wrong - he publicly said so.

    He is a hypocrite.
  45. Boomer AB from Canada writes: See Mr Justice, we can agree on something.
  46. Holston Lane from Toronto, Canada writes: "Shawn W"? It is not "about sex" it is about hypocrisy.
It does not matter what he did, he broke the laws that he swore to uphold and that he held others to.

    He is out!
  47. steve allan from Welland, Ontario, Canada writes: --------- Free Spirit from Halifax, Canada writes: Wow. His entire career and future life completely ruined. Now... You said - only in the USA. Americans can talk all they want about being liberated but the fact is it remains a very puritanical society. Even Spitzer was zealous in his crusade against prostitution. Maybe he got too close to the candy and once you get a taste..........

The worst thing about this whole affair is the hypocrisy - it's of monumental proportions!
  48. john doe from toronto, Canada writes: He is a crusader against fraud, theft, embezzling, and white-collar cheating. I'm not interested in what he does in bed -- that's between him and his wife.

On the other hand, if he had taken a bribe from lobbyists or the from actual firms he was investigating, then he would deserve to be publicly pilloried.

The hypocrisy here is from the holier-than-thou commentators, not from him.
  49. Dan Nyznik from Keene, ON, Canada writes: One-thousand dollars for a prostitute? Let's see HER photo.
  50. Boomer AB from Canada writes: Sorry john doe, that dog won't hunt. If he was having an affair that's between him and his wife. He was patronizing a criminal organization (and at $1000/hr a fairly profitable one) after swearing to uphold the law. That's completely different. He's done like dinner.
  51. No Left or Right Just Neutral from Canada writes: Boomer AB from Canada writes: Sorry john doe, that dog won't hunt. If he was having an affair that's between him and his wife. Boomer, then half of the Congress(Mostly Republicans) should be done like dinner too!

What happened to that Airport washroom sex dude??
  52. Simon, you are absolutely right. Corporate media hosts in America are salivating about this news. They are going to get couple of weeks out of this. Looks like G&M joined the bandwagon too. Still no news about the 8 American dead soldiers!!
  53. john doe from toronto, Canada writes: Boomer AB writes: "If he was having an affair that's between him and his wife. He was patronizing a criminal organization..."

Yes, and it's on about the same level as people who send MP3 songs to their friends, buy a pack of bootleg cigarettes, scalp a hockey ticket, or download software samples without paying for them.

Do you have a friend who didn't tell Rogers he was receiving free cable?

These are all "unsavoury" practices -- dishonest and illegal -- and should be discouraged, especially by elected people in leadership positions. But it should not be the stuff of headlines, scandals and resignations.
  54. Free Spirit from Halifax, Canada writes: Prostitution is illegal in New York state ? Really ? What, then, is this:

    http://www.eros-ny.com/eros.htm
    http://www.eros-ny.com/sections/newyorkescorts.htm

There are thousands of women, men and transvestites advertising sex for sale on this site. In New York. All of them describe their "services" and most state the going price.

    Huh ?

  57. Paul Collins from Toronto, Canada writes: Surprisingly, Governor Spitzer could still be innocent. I have two case scenarios for you. Firstly, remember the power of the media is painting a picture here. It could be false. The power elites that run this world could be planning a nuclear attack in New York, all in hopes of eroding our rights and setting up a world dictatorship. 911 itself could still be an inside job. I believe Governor Spitzer balked at this and they embarassed him through the power of the media. Now the next Governor will take the money that the power elites offered and watch his city get incinerated, along with our eroding rights. We should all thank the power of the media for this one. Governor Spitzer could still be innocent. Secondly, we all remember Conrad Black. Well imagine yourself to be Lord Black. You have powerful friends allies, and foes. You want to get your get out of jail card. Since Mr. Black went to the big house, Prince Harry was outed as in Afghanistan, Obama and Ottawa were linked in a scandal, and Governor Spitzer has been publicly humialiated. Hmmmm. I think Lord Black is blackmailing members of the power elites to get his get out of jail card. http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Everymans-Way-Paul-Collins/dp/1605301183/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205247199&sr=1-1
  58. RD Lone from Vancouver, Canada writes: Wow, why does everyone hate this guy? He sued some white-collar crooks who got severance pay of 100mil and he cracked down on other white-collar crimes.

I'd also argue that that not all prostitution rings are equal. Presumably these high priced gals are local and do it consensually, via many who are victims of human trafficking from asis/east europe and/or abusive pimps.

Moral of the story is that if you are going to piss off people with lots of money, you better be squeaky clean and make no mistakes.
  59. Boomer AB from Canada writes: john doe, banging hookers is on the same level as scalping tickets?? You're kidding aren't you.
  60. R. Antifimay from barrie, Canada writes: Why would anyone pay $4,000 for a Ho?

Why it's either taxpayers money, or, a tax write off.
  61. david tam from Hong Kong, Hong Kong writes: Everyone is asking WHY? These words are prophetic : " ... when passions are roused the prudent restraints of social behaviour become difficult to endure. Those who, at such times, throw them off, acquire a new energy and sense of power from the cessation of inner conflict, and, though they may come to disaster at the end, enjoy meanwhile a sense of god-like exaltation which, though known to the great mystics, can never be experienced by a merely pedestrian virtue." (Bertrand Russell's "A History of Western Philosophy")
  62. Moose Lion from Canada writes: Boomer:

"john doe, banging hookers is on the same level as scalping tickets?? You're kidding aren't you."

Boomer: there are places in the world where 'banging hookers' is actually more legal than scalping tickets. So no, I don't think he was kidding.
  63. Mr. Coffee from Victoria, Canada writes: Another "family values" politician goes down in flames! Haven't we had enough of these patronizing windbags with their trophy wife #2 (3, 4, whatever) beside them preaching about God, homosexuality, blah blah blah?

It's time to legalize prostitution, regulate it, and tax it.
  64. john doe from toronto, Canada writes: Boomer AB writes: "john doe, banging hookers is on the same level as scalping tickets?? You're kidding aren't you."

I'm kidding a little bit, but not really. The crimes I listed are all illegal but consensual, and done by consenting adults, and are "crimes" in that people either pay for things they shouldn't, or don't pay for things they should.

Spitzer was not accused of "banging hookers"; his "crime" was paying them. A hockey ticket scalper/buyer isn't arrested for watching the game, it's for the transaction before the game. So, yeah, they are kind of similar.
  65. Boomer AB from Canada writes: john doe, the thing that got me laughing was the thing over the "credit" he had. How does one get a credit from such a business? Do they have a "frequent flyer" or "BOGO" plan or something.
  66. Elmo Watson from Canada writes: ABC News' blog is reporting that this is a politically motivated prosecution. Apparently, the investigation did not begin as an investigation into a prostitution ring ... it began as an investigation into Spitzer's finances. They traced cash to the escort service, and then turned their attention to it. No explanation has been given as to why Spitzer's finances were being investigated. The investigation is being led by the federal attorney-general's Public Integrity Section. The Section is now under investigation for politically-motivated persecutions. For every Republican politician investigated by this group, 5.6 Democrats are investigated. Is Spitzer guilty? Probably. Would he have been caught if the Bush administration wasn't running a witch hunt against Democrats? Nope.
  67. Johnny Canuck from Canada writes: Hopefully he was having the company of a lady. It could have been worse I suppose. He could have been using drugs, having the company of the same sex or selling state secrets. So chances are he's a fairly normal ego driven millionaire maniac.
  68. Rain Couver from Canada writes: Are there no politicians able to take the moral high ground in practice and not just in rhetoric.
  69. Boomer AB from Canada writes: And sorry john but buying a scalped ticket and going to a hockey game is not the same as paying for a hooker and banging her-that's really reaching.
  70. Lou Bix from van, Canada writes: It will be good when this hooker is out selling her tale of sex. Howard Stern and shows like that will make $4,300.00 an hour look like chump change. This tale will be around for a long time.
  71. Bill Smith from Canada writes: What does have to do with Canada, and why do Canadians care about the the governor of New York?
  72. fortunate one from Oh!MeMeMe, Canada writes: One of the most serious pieces of damage incurred in this affair is to the ever-necessary fight for the principals of honest, open and just civil society that Spitzer espoused. Whether you liked him or not (and whether he was fallible or not), the things he fought for politically were admirable. That he might fail shouldn't signal an end to that struggle, or validate the friends of the darkened back-room. Since "baby with the bathwater" is a cliche based in fact, I expect it will, though, for a little while at least.
  73. Holston Lane from Toronto, Canada writes: "Shawn W.? I am ALL FOR the legalization of prostitution.
But fat this time, it IS against the law of New York and Spitzer broke the laws he VOWED to uphold
It is not about SEX it is about hypocrisy and his believing that the laws are for other people not him.
Spitzer prosecutes hookers, but uses them. It is the hypocrisy, not the sex. Got it?
  74. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Paul, do you hold the movie rights to your conspiracy stories? Would make a great drama starring Clooney, Ford, Washington and a cast of millions. If this is a pre - April fools story please wait a few weeks.
  75. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: An Thornton et al who commented that it is a private affair, his own business....details as they emerge this from cnbc.com

"Here, in the Hauppauge offices of the Internal Revenue Service, investigators conducting a routine examination of suspicious financial transactions reported to them by banks found several unusual movements of cash involving the governor of New York, several officials said."

  76. Jack F from Canada writes: Note to Mr. Spitzer, those who live in glass houses...shouldn't get involved in prostitution rings.
  77. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Bill, Canadians have been cooped up for four months of a severe winter and are looking for anything that changes the subject. Also most Canadians are sex deprived and love a good story about humping.
  78. hostile camper from north of the 49th, Canada writes: Maybe its got something to do with the human combination of excessive amounts boredom and power. Sometimes drivers street race. Why precisely?

So a powerful, bored dude at the pinnacle of his career seeks to determine the limits thereof. Sad, but not exactly unusual. Disappointing also that a guy that smart couldn't just "make do" with an affair, thus keeping things low-profile. Not enough adrenalin, I guess. Well, there goes a potential next President.

Leave the explanations to the shrinks, or better yet, the movies.
  79. Steve Not an Alberta Redneck from Calgary, Canada writes: Mr. Justice from Canada writes: ". . . Vitter gives a VERY bad name to those Christians who actually, uh, "believe" in "Thou shalt not commit adultery" (Book of Exodus, Chapter 20)."

The only thing the Christian right believes in is that there is a lot of money and power to be obtained by spreading these nostrums. However, actually following them is just too difficult and inconvenient for those with money and power.
  80. EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: Steve, actually Spitzer is Jewish, so the Christians are kind of off the hook as far as the hypocracy angle in this particular case. Moses was also a Jew when God provided him with the ten commandments which included the one about adultery. So both Moses and Spitzer showed human weakness. Christians hold the ten commandments to be rules to be followed, but of course are subject to the weakness of the human animal and break them on a daily basis. I am sure some religious scholar will correct me if I am wrong.
  81. Bryce McLaughlin from Fort McMurray, Canada writes: What this proves, if nothing else, is a liberal Jewish politician from New York can be as much of a rank hypocrite as a conservative Christian one from the Bible Belt. Spitzer, a self-aggrandizing bully, deserves his denouement in the media as much as Vitter, Craig and others.
  82. A Chinaman from Canada writes: How comes we don't have these juicy stories among the politicians? Are our politicians more honourable than the Americans? Or just we don't care!
  83. Steve Not an Alberta Redneck from Calgary, Canada writes: If there is a lesson in this its that if you marry a desireable man, you were not the only one interested in him. Often, it then becomes difficult for him to adjust to the monoganous married life. I used to be scandalized by co-workers who were on the prowl as soon as their very attractive spouse was busy or out of town but reflecting on what I saw of this type's "social life", before they got hitched, I now realize that the adjustment must have been difficult. This is just an observation and not an attempt to excuse such behaviour, but if a woman really wants a monogamous relationship, its something to keep in mind. Winning the battle is not winning the war.
  84. fortunate one from Oh!MeMeMe, Canada writes: Your link, hitman jr., indicts CIBC, but not Spitzer.
And quoting the WSJ in this instance is plain lunacy: de mortuis nihil nisi bonum.
  85. jim in London from London, Canada writes: Is this what my $5000 a night hooker means by no guv no love!

    As well, I think the quote in the article summarizes quite nicely the ethos of Spitzer;
The Wall Street Journal said Mr. Spitzer had shown his lack of restraint in overly aggressive tactics as attorney general, making "extraordinary threats" to entire firms and to those who criticized his pursuit of high-profile Wall Street figures.
"Governor Spitzer, who made his career by specializing in not just the prosecution, but the ruin, of other men, is himself almost certainly ruined," the paper said.

    ---------------------
  87. anderson Stevenson from Canada writes: Its not the infidelity that he should resign for, but for contracting with a crimminal organization while he is governor. It makes it all the more neccessary when one considers his reputation as a prosecutor of this vice, This case has exposed his character as well, and no one given his background can deny now his apppearance of being a hypocrite and a mean one at that. This has undermined his authority as governor as well as bringing disrepute to the office. What more does it take to have someone resign?
This whole affair makes one think of Freud and the subconscious. Did he awill to get caught?
  88. globefan Eh from Canada writes: The political eavesdropping paid off for Bush...now I wonder will they catch any Republicans? Spitzers bank called because they were concerned about his money transfers...funny how they missed so many others.
  89. The Middle Finger ..I.. from Canada writes: To Mr. Justice from Canada who wrote: Spitzer should register Republican . . . "Christian Family Values". . . . HA HA !

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Republicans are known as the GOP - Get ( it ) On ( With a ) Prostitute.

  91. Joyce Smith from Vancouver, Canada writes: When is Patrick Fitzgerald, the mighty prosecutor, going to get caught for embezzlement???
  92. J.C. Davies from Canada writes:
"Shawn W from Toronto, Canada writes: When I first glanced at this story I was sure that Mr. Spitzer must have been RUNNING the prostitution ring and that was what the big uproar was about. Then I find out he hired a prostitute. Big deal. If anything his wife should be pissed and everyone should go back to their business. Americans are so bloody uptight about sex"

Are you suggesting that if say Dalton McGuinty were similarly caught this would be a non-story in Canada?
  93. Boomer AB from Canada writes: What's with these guys and hookers. Why can't they act like a self respecting Democrat and get some skull from the hired help?
  94. Mahatma Gandhi from Calgary, Canada writes: The American obsession with public officials' sex life baffles me. It's evident there is something seriously wrong with Mr. Spitzer's marriage, and I don't want to know about it. And I certainly don't think the man should be exposed to public humiliation for it. Let him get on with his job, which is what he is paid to do, and which he seems to do pretty darn well.
  95. Ron Paul is the '08 man from Great White North, Canada writes: This was a mighty fine set-up and revenge for all the big players that he went after....

    on another note:

Now the GOP wants Spitzer to resign or else they impeach...what a bunch of hypocrites and political oppurtunists

It seems that the only thing you can impeached for these days is for sex related improprieties and the like. Never mind lying about going to war, defying the Constitution, etc....

    absolutely sickening....
  96. BEN DOVER from WESTERN CANADA, Canada writes: I am pretty sure that they will say that it is illegal for the F.B.I. to use wiretaps in or around Valentines day.
  97. Tim Cares from Canada writes: "... Boomer AB from Canada writes: I wonder if so many people would be willing to give him a pass if he was a Republican. To the best of my knowledge banging hookers is still against the law...."

Well it's not against the law here.

  99. Duh Work Farce Virtually Alive from Canada writes: Pphheeew...The howling for blood in this forum is sickening. This is the 21st Century. Sex is for sale everywhere. A guy caught with a prostitute is no big deal compared to the corporate millionaires scamming shareholders and the public out of millions of dollars.

So... the NeoCons are crying ''Impeach''!!

Why don't they cry ''Impeach ChaneyBush'' for lying again and again and getting the U.S. into those wars.

What hypocrites... Sex is none of our business, but war and spending billions and trillions and getting thousands of civilians and troops killed and maimed, based on 'lies'...

    That is our business.

    Yes, IMPEACH. Impeach ChaneyBush.

  101. Stand up for Social Justice The Canadian Way from Canada writes: Maybe there is more to this story then meets the eye. I wonder who he pissed off that the system has let him be the fallguy???
  102. toronto Girl from Toronto, Canada writes: I'm always in awe of these women who stand beside their men in public office when they've done something to compromise their family's wellbeing. I'd for once love to see a guy get caught like this and have to stand on the podium without his wife there. Sure he needs her now...didn't need her so much on the eve of last Valentine's day.

In that press conference his wife's face says it all. All I could focus on is why in God's name would you stand there???? Let him be accountable all on his own. Maybe his wife not being there would have sent a more impactful message...like yes, I REALLY did damage my family.
  103. Tim Cares from Canada writes: Elmo Watson from Canada writes: ABC News' blog is reporting that this is a politically motivated prosecution. Apparently, the investigation did not begin as an investigation into a prostitution ring ... it began as an investigation into Spitzer's finances. They traced cash to the escort service, and then turned their attention to it. No explanation has been given as to why Spitzer's finances were being investigated. The investigation is being led by the federal attorney-general's Public Integrity Section....

Maybe this is the least of his worries. Where did the money come from? Was it his or is someone else paying for it?
This may just be the start.
