dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Geez...whats this guy got against Litsch? He looked very good last year.
Blue Jays were #3 in the majors in ERA last year. This will hurt, but they have more depth than other teams.
Jeff Blair doesn't engender much confidence in his ability to write about a ball team if he can't keep his personal opinions out of a story. You aren't a columnist Jeff...don't act like one.
Casey is only one arm in a great bullpen. They'll work it out without Jeff Blair crying from the rooftops.- Posted 13/03/08 at 1:02 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Matthew Goff from Toronto, Canada writes: Bit harsh Dan. Blair tells it like it is and I expect opinions with 'commentary' and 'blog' pieces. If I want complete objectivity, I will read the box score. And he is spot on about AL East stats - stats don't like and everyone in baseball relies on them for pitching match ups.
As for Litsch, he was ok last year. But he is hardly the next best thing is he - I am sure baseball experts would have noticed by now - and now the scouting report is out on him, will be interesting to see how he gets on. I think he will get roughed up a bit but I hope I am wrong. That said, what can you expect from your 5th starter? Just try and keep things respectable, give the offence a chance to score 6 runs and then hand over to the bullpen. Who are now without Janssen. For some reason I don't think Accardo will be as good in a set up role as he was in a closing role..don't know why.- Posted 13/03/08 at 8:36 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Tony! Tony! from Canada writes: Dan: If you're looking for complete objectivity, there are plenty of AP/CP articles out there that just give the bare bone facts. Like this one: http://www.cbc.ca/cp/baseball/080312/m031208A.html
I like how Blair tells it like he sees it. I don't always agree with him, but at least he's an interesting read in a time where print media's often regurgitating the same articles in every single paper. I mean, come on, how many times can we hear that Eckstein's got "grit" and that Wells is trying to "bounce back" this year?
As for Litsch, he really doesn't have the greatest stuff. It will be interesting to see if big league scouting reports catch up to him....- Posted 13/03/08 at 11:23 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Kyle La from Toronto, Canada writes: Jeff: I didn't quite understand your outlook on Ricky Romero. Were you suggesting that he's not looking like the surefire bet we thought he could be? I've been quite excited about this kid since we drafted him. Cheers.

R J from Pickering, Canada writes: Ah, Dan, Jeff is a columnist.
The Globe shifted McLeod to the Jays beat and has been letting Blair be a baseball columnist since last spring.

John S from weinerburg, Canada writes: Dudes chill...Janssen's gone - maybe for a career. The discussion was, how to replace him. And I would say that depending on the market, (and let's face it if you're looking for pitching it's always a sellers market), that whoever HAS pitching that they're willing to part with, will want something more than just Lind. And if they ask for Snider or even Rios, would they part with one of those 3 for a 5th starter? On the other hand, if someone asks for Rios, would the Jays be willing to part with him for a 2nd or 3rd starter and just move Burnett et al down one notch?
My reaction to Jeff is: I defer to his baseball knowledge just about every time but I'd like to see how Litsch pans out. When his sinker is working he's hard to hit and I'm not sure if the sophmore jinx rule would apply here. Also as a 5th starter he doesnt necessarily start every 5th time and sometimes he's available for long relief.- Posted 13/03/08 at 9:17 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
