Nice is an adjective meant for sweaters, gestures and little old ladies, not for bands in the loud-music business. But Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters are being hailed as the "nicest band in rock 'n' roll," and the use of the improbable superlative is a contentious one. In these days of presidential primaries and Idol shows, everything is a popularity contest.
