Blair: Blame it On Rios

Late getting the lineups up because of the Alex Rios stuff - the deal's not done, but it now looks like it will get done after the Blue Jays apparently reinforced an Opening Day deadline and when's the last time it's taken the Blue Jays to a guy locked up as badly as they want to get Rios locked up? Sal Fasano's been released, much to the chagrin of all of us with a notepad and tape recorder, and Armando Benitez still doesn't have his working papers, according to G.M. J.P. Ricciardi, because the U.S. Department of Keeping People Out - Immigration, Homeland Insecurity, whatever it's called this week - "lost a piece of paper." Why am I not surprised?

Cool and windy but sunny. Cliff Floyd in da house. Doc on the mound. Life is good ....

Globe on Baseball

Jeff Blair has been writing about baseball since 1989 and has been covering baseball for The Globe and Mail since joining the paper in 1997. This is where he will present news, views and analysis about baseball, focusing mostly (although not exclusively) on the Toronto Blue Jays. Robert MacLeod, a Globe and Mail reporter for close to 30 years, is turning his attention to coverage of the Toronto Blue Jays and Major League Baseball after eight years following the trials and tribulations of the Toronto Raptors.
