Saskatchewan's Hritzuk remains undefeated

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Saskatchewan's Eugene Hritzuk remained undefeated with a pair of wins at the Canadian senior curling championship Wednesday.

Hritzuk improved to 8-0 with a 6-5 win over Ontario's Bruce Delaney (5-2) in Draw 12 and a 7-3 victory over Quebec's John Stewart (1-6) in Draw 14.

Manitoba's Vic Peters was next at 6-2 after losing 6-3 to Stewart in Draw 12 and pulling out a 7-6 win over Alberta's Bob Genoway (2-5) in Draw 14.

B.C.'s Ken McHargue was third at 5-1 after pulling out a 9-8, extra-end win over Newfoundland and Labrador's Gary Oke in Draw 13.

Rounding out the day's early action, Paul Hunter (2-6) of the Yukon-Northwest Territories beat Alberta 8-5 but dropped an 8-6 decision to Ontario. New Brunswick's Russ Howard improved to 5-2 after a 9-7 win over Ted MacFadyen (1-5) of P.E.I., and Nova Scotia's Brian Rafuse (4-2) handed Northern Ontario's Murray Affleck (2-5) an 8-4 loss.

In women's action, B.C.'s Pat Sanders (6-0) also remained undefeated through early action after an 8-4 win over Newfoundland's Barbara Pinsent (4-3).

Sanders was to play New Brunswick's Maureen McMaster (2-5) later Wednesday, after McMaster earlier dropped a 9-6 decision to Barb Currie (3-3) of P.E.I.

Alberta's Sandy Turner (5-2) after a pair of decisive victories. She defeated Gail Daniels (1-7) of the Territories 15-5 and Jean Garbolinsky (4-4) of Manitoba 11-5.

Ontario's Ann Pearson (4-3) won both her matches, defeating Delores Syrota (4-4) of Saskatchewan 6-4 and Daniels 8-3.

Quebec's Agnes Charette (4-3) split her matches, pounding Syrota 12-6 and dropping a 10-2 decision to Garbolinsky.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia's Yvonne Martin improved to 3-3 with a 10-5 win over Northern Ontario's Barbara Ward (2-5).
