An unfair share

Whenever a provincial government slips into economic trouble, it is easy to blame Ottawa. So it was natural that the Ontario Liberals would pepper their 2008-09 budget with complaints about the province's inequitable treatment. But if those assertions mask the Liberals' sins of overspending and overtaxing, they are also true. The amount Ontario residents send to Ottawa exceeds the amount that Ottawa spends in Ontario by roughly $20-billion per year.
