Talking to the Taliban, the remarkable research series by The Globe and Mail, has revealed many interesting things about Taliban foot soldiers: Their overriding goal is to rid Afghanistan of foreigners. They are not global jihadists – they don't even know Canada is a country, much less have intentions to harm it. Many have lost relatives in aerial bombing. Many have lost their livelihood because of poppy eradication. They want to be included in the governance of their country.
