Charlton Heston: a hero for his time

From age nine until about age 15, I thought Charlton Heston was the best actor in the world.The love affair started, unsurprisingly, with Ben-Hur which, to a bucktoothed Prairie boy in Grade 4, was nothing short of miraculous, the first movie I ever saw with an intermission (!) and whose naval battle scene and climactic chariot race seemed the sine qua non of nail-biting action.
