King 99 from Canada writes: Well maybe Spezza is correct but he hasn't looked at the stats. Unlike the Laffs when Sundin went down they were able to carry on at a decent clip. Like Wilbur said on Leafs Lunch the Sens have a losing attitude and it shows with Heatly and Spezza. They look like they're afraid to get their hands dirty. Even though they didn't look good and weren't productive on their many PP's, I'm still not that impressed with the Pens. Maybe the fact that they rolled 4 lines regularly is the difference. Just tire the Sens out. wear them down. Kinda like the Ducks from last year.

Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: One of the knocks on Spezza was during his Junior days - he profited by the hard work of others.
He seems to be the spokesman for the team in Alfredsson's absence. He may be capable of this off the ice but certainly has not proven it where it counts.
I would like to see some hard work from all. I have not seen this yet.
I think this team continues to coast on the November stories - that's just not good enough.- Posted 10/04/08 at 10:17 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Spezza should save his breath. He'll need it for the next game. It's really amazing how many excuses this Ottawa team has. No wonder Sens fans are fed up. Watch how hard all of the other teams in the playoffs are working. They get it. So Jason...shut up and score.

SY GIL from TO, Canada writes: Hard to believe that there's actually another team that's been poorly managed. Sure they do well in the regular season when it doesn't mean anything. Signing Gerber and not willing to ship him to the minor and addressing the Emery affair ensured their season would tank. Their top players are not playing with hearts. Can't see them getting past the first round. They need a defenceman like Kubina. In return, the Leafs should accept a prospect like Nick Foligno. If the Leafs are really serious about winning, they should offer to accept the Gerber and Emery contracts along with Ottawa's 2nd round draft pick for Woznieuksi and Raycroft.

Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: SY - sounds like a good deal, although a deal between the Leafs and Sens would take a lot of self-confidence from those in charge of operations - which isn't there.
Once again wayne demonstrates the reason why we ignore Leaf fanatics, as they have nothing to contribute other than pathetic attempts to boost their team at the expense of others.
I much prefer discussing hockey with Leaf loyalists than fanatics.
The problem with these boards is that there are too many Leaf fanatics to do their team any good.- Posted 10/04/08 at 11:03 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: 'Bryan Murray shook his head and yelled his disapproval. 'Hit the net! Hit the net!,' the Ottawa Senators head coach said after one of his players blew a shot wide of the cage during a drill in practice Thursday. It's the most basic fundamental in hockey, but it needed to be reinforced.' From today's newswire. Says it all...

Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: Dave - agree. Senators fans have started a rule change to include some dude dressed in white to signal near goals worth a half point to bring hockey more in line with Aussie Rules football.
Could have turned the game in the Sens favour and would have certainly confused everyone posting on the thread.- Posted 10/04/08 at 11:29 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Go easy on us leaf fans...three years no playoffs and counting lets remember!
Wayne - We would take Spezza in a hearbeat and you know it!
I think the Sens can win but for me, watching the first game, the biggest issue was winning battles for the puck. They are big enough, fast enough, and strong enough to win their fair share or more but simply didn't. It has to start there and I think Spezza and Heatley should lead the way.
Not to bring the leafs up, and I am sorry for this, but those on this team that remembers losing to a Sundin less leafs need to inspire others to believe they can win games. Even if they can just get it to a game 6 or 7 when Alfie might be back.
Take out two brutal mistakes in game 1 and it was tied 0-0 for most of the game!
Now on the downside....Sid won't stay that quiet through the whole series.- Posted 11/04/08 at 8:14 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: Mariposa Belle- once again the bilge is wide open. Re-read some of the posts from during the season and you will see that Sens fans equal Leaf fans in putting up moronic comments that have very little to do with hockey. (The late, great Super Troll comes to mind)
Let's talk hockey. Calgary goalie Kippers faces 27 shots in a period! That's the stuff of legend and that is the type of goaltending that steals a Cup.Nabakov will probably get the Sharks to the finals as Price will for the Habs. Follow the goalies!!- Posted 11/04/08 at 8:15 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Paul I from Rochester NY, United States writes: OK, to hell with hockey. Let's dump on the Sens! You can't win with Krusty so how will you win sans the Big Swede? Ask Spezza. Apparently the drugs you guys say the Sens indulge in have allowed Spezza to see pigs flying over the Ottawa Valley.
Coach Murray has a revelation. "put the puck on the net" Sorry Coach, we thought if we got it in that trapezoidal area it would be to your liking!
