Nicolas Perrot from Ottawa, Canada writes: Flames need to be more disciplined, like they were in game 1. Way too many penalties. Kip was great but 1st goal should've been stopped. Hopefully they will rebound in Calgary. Best moment, ref perched on top of the net to see the action. lol

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: No offense Calgary fans.... but I bet on SJ.
Still cheering for you guys though.
Not surprised at the outcome but very surprised at how well the Flames are standing up against the Sharks.... well done.
Loved Keenans press conference..... I don't want to talk about that (refs).... sweet.... love him.

John - from BC Interior, Canada writes: All's right in the World again with the Flames losing tonight. Get more than even Sharks - take them out in five!!
If San Jose continues to pepper the Kipper like they have in the first two games, they'll only need three more games.
The Habs win, as did Dallas. The only downside tonight was that victory by Detroit.- Posted 11/04/08 at 1:06 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Ziad Fazel from Calgary, Canada writes: The Game 3 referees will face Calgary fans' wrath for their colleagues' judgement in Game 2. No envy for what will be a rough night for them.
I personally wanted a penalty for the follow-through foot-yank that took down Nolan, a non-call on Iginla's shove in the corner, and more discipline from the Flames in the other 2nd period calls. Keenan might have called a time-out in the 2nd to remind our pros of how Canada's national teams shrug off international referees, instead of lash out in frustration. The Flames took away any sympathy in the refs to "even up" the calls/non-calls.
I'll bet Nabokoff is having another good night's sleep tonight, while Kiprusoff is having night terrors.
Looking forward to Game 3 with more of this breathtaking goaltending, hard disciplined play by both teams, uncontroversial officials, and roughly equal shots on goal. Ended by Nolan in OT, from Huselius and Regehr.- Posted 11/04/08 at 2:32 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Bill Weston from Grand Rapids, MI, United States writes: One thing Red Wing fans know is that its always dangerous to count out a team led by Kiprusoff and Iginla, last years series with Detroit notwithstanding. As strange as it may sound considering where Calgary and San Jose finished in the standings, those two guys are the reason Im hoping the Sharks take this series. I'd rather the Wings play the Sharks down the line than those pesky Flames.

Trilly B from Canada writes: Didn't catch the game, but just saw the highlights. Holy smokes, what goaltending! By the time this series is over, those two goalies will have compiled enough material between them for a two-disc dvd highlight reel.
That one cross-crease save by Kipper on the PK was nuts. And that glove by Nabokov on Nolan was just insane.
Love it.- Posted 11/04/08 at 8:39 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Popeye Dillon from North Vancouver, Canada writes: Kelly Hrudey said it best the other night. If the Flames think they can go to Kipper every time to win they aren't going to go very far. They're lucky to be tied. The Sharks also happen to play better on the road than at home. The Flames have no one to blame but themselves for the parade of penalties. Its been a long time since I've seen such a lack of discipline in a playoff game.

Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: While Calgary did play undisciplined, I thought the ref's kinda stunk.
Sharks players embellished a bit. I thought Thorton jumping into the Boards head first on that slashing call was a little much. And then the 3 make up calls against SJ to start the 3rd was a little stupid too.
Either way - Kipper is a Beast!!!!- Posted 11/04/08 at 9:15 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

P Scott from Canada writes: Referees drained the bench. Good to see we didn't get outplayed at regular strength.
This will only make the Flames hungrier.

Mike W from Calgary, Canada writes: I thought the game was fairly even in periods one and three. The second period was where the Flames lost the game with all those penalties and being outshot something like 22-3 in that period. It's lame to blame the refs, but the non-call on Nolan was incredible but they topped that off with a bunch of bad calls on the Flames to give the Sharks way too many 5-on-3 minutes. Thornton looked like he was almost dead when he went down from a tap on the leg. He gets his call then somehow, by divine intervention I'm sure, is able to get up and keep playing without even coming off the ice. Sorry, Big Joe, lost a lot of respect for you right there. For better or for worse, you won't see Iggy pulling crap like that.
Flames should be happy to steal one and have the series tied coming home.

Jake ---- from Canada writes: This Calgary series is shaping up to be the best fist round series. Lots of hitting and end to end action. Gotta love Kipper he has been standing on his head. SJ will have a tough time coming into Calgary that is one building you dont want to be in if you are the visiting team. Its gonna be wild and i'm looking forward to it.

Dave Miller from Canada writes: I thought the refs ruined what was a spectacular game. And not just with the calling on the flames in the second, but it also seemed like they were trying to 'balance things out' at the beginning of the third by throwing a bunch of Sharks in the box. I wanted to get up and shut it off in protest but the sometimes remarkable play of the players/keepers from both teams made me keep it on.
This is going to be a spectacular series I only hope that the refs let'em play.- Posted 11/04/08 at 10:05 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

B Fulsom from Menlo Park, United States writes: Like I said yesterday, Kipper can't stop 40 every night. He stole one game, maybe he'll steal two...but with the Sharks pouring it on and outshooting Calgary 2-to-1 every night, they'll get what they deserve.

Sev Scott from Cowtown, Canada writes: Knew we were in trouble when during a goalmouth scramble, the official laid prostrate on top of the net, so that he could appear to be "the man". Amazed to see Thorton go crashing into the boards due to a slash. There was no embellishment, but it shows how the new NHL has resulted in the players getting softer (don't slug me Joe!) . SJ is not that good. Kipper was good, but Yuri was better. They wanted a split and got it. Either way, Canada is going to get some great players in a week or so. Go Canada Go.

...People love to badmouth the Leafs.
Neil sometimes even I enjoy watching the Laffs (but only sometimes).
Don't think it is so much the fumbling Leafs only that gets people so POed across this BIG land as it is at the T.O. Media in general. Not just the sports media, but the entire damn media is ego-centric T.O. based. We call it the C of U. Sometimes we don't even know what they are talking about. For ex. it has only been 3 weeks since I found out what an 'Ontario Cottage' was (for God's sake). And I've lived in T.O almost 5 years and often go back there several times a year.
Maybe we speak a different language.
Over 3,000 miles away from the Pacific and over 1,000 from the Atlantic and even further to Newfoundland.
Everything from politics, entertainment (so called), even the Weather Network is based out of Toronto which is almost 3500 miles from here. It gets to be a pain in the rear after a while. Maybe people are just taking cracks at the Leafs to tell Toronto sportscasters to F/O.
Neil this is a big country, a VERY big country, for instance are you overly interested in what happens daily in Victoria 3,300 mile away? Or even in near-by Throis Rivieres? Bet your answer is NO, not too much. Well neither are we interested in endless events from Toronto.
But you are lucky, you only have to suffer from downtown T.O. but nowadays 'Vanc media' is trying to become T.O. Media the 2nd. And they are just as boring as T.O. media. A curse on both their houses.
Anyway Neil, that was a hell'va goal tending show last night huh?
This is a great series so far. And will probably get better in that crazy Sea of Red in Cowtown.--No hard feelings Neil.
PS--I'm from N.S. never hear of home in either the Toronto or that new copycat Vanc media.- Posted 11/04/08 at 6:03 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Hugo Hall from Calgary, Canada writes: Quit arguing about the Loafs again, bad enough we get inundated with news about them from September through early April every year. It's the playoffs. Let's talk about the Flames.
To me, bad refereeing (like we witnessed on Thursday night) is an occasion in which great teams rise above the adversity and find a way to win. There's no doubt the zebras were incompetent on Thursday, but if the Flames had played as well as they did in Game 1 they would have won in spite of that. The game plan should be simple: don't give the zebras an opportunity to determine the outcome of the game - meaning play disciplined and don't take foolish penalties. do what they did in Game 1.- Posted 13/04/08 at 7:21 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
