Canadians take diving bronze

MOSCOW — Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal and Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., won bronze on the synchronized platform Saturday at a Grand Prix event dominated by Chinese divers.

Benfeito and Filion were 34.17 points behind the score of 339.54 posted by China's Cao Jingzhen and Chen Ni. Russia's Natalia Goncharova and Yulia Koltunova were second, 18.36 points behind.

Cao also won the women's platform while compatriot Li Shixin dominated the men's springboard.

Shixin finished the men's three-metre springboard competition with 476.30 points, 34.4 points ahead of Germany's Tobias Schellenberg. Alexander Dobroskok of Russia spoiled two jumps to finish third with 439.30.

Cao collected 346.9 points from six jumps to win the women's platform ahead of Russia's Tatiana Perunina (327.80) and Olga Vintonyak (327.60).

China, which is targeting eight gold medals in the diving events at the Beijing Olympics in August, leads the medal standings with four gold and one silver medal after three days of the four-day meet.

Russia is second with one gold, two silvers and two bronze medals.
