  1. Patrick Matheson from Canada writes: I only saw the last 7 minutes...
    WELL DONE CUJO!

thanks for all the good times, whether it was with the Oilers, Blues, TO and now with the Flames...

    Good on you Mate

    KuDos to CuJo
  2. David H from Canada writes: Joe Thorton is the most over rated player in the NHL. Talk about playoff did, absolutely no heart. No wonder the Bruins ran him out of town, I hope he is left off Team Canada 2010.
  3. John E. Boy from Canada writes: Wow...what a victory!!! Definitely big parties on Whyte Avenue tonight!!! Go Flames Go.
  4. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: This game was an unbelievable comeback...

Like everyone else, I watched the first four minutes and thought for certain that the rout was on... The Flames didn't give up, however

    Great game by Curtis Joseph...
  5. Kerry Williamson from Wellington, New Zealand writes: Flames fever is alive, even here in New Zealand, more than half a world away, in a city where there are no rinks, and where the word "ice" continually has to be attached to the word "hockey" so people know which sport you are talking about. Just watching the livescoring of that was fun.

Now, if only the NHL was as important as "world's strongest man" on television, I'd get to see some playoff highlights...
  6. Jeff Gulley from Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, Canada writes: What a class act Cujo is! He knows his role on this team, even after last night's stunner. You can tell he's totally behind Kipper 100%.

Would love to see him finally win the Cup with the Flames this year.
  7. Walker fromtheevilempireofAB from Calgary, Canada writes: Haha I was at the game, it was great. After that big hit everyone was back into it. Helluva night.

Joseph stepped in and did a great job, to the support of "Cujo Cujo" chants. Man I can't wait for Tuesday.

John E. Boy: The party is on 17th Ave, you're thinkin of Edomonton :P

    Go Flames!!!!
  8. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Best series so far..... loving it. And I picked SJ.

    Congrats flames fans....

    Cujo... nice.

    Cheers
  9. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Aww say it ain't so Joe
  10. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: John E. Boy---John Boy Whyte Ave is in Garlic City
You've been in Fort Mac too long, you need some civilization!
    Cowtown is 3 hours south.
The Stetsons in RED panties dig it on 17th Ave in Cowville.
That's one block north of 16th which is the Trans Canada Hwy.
John Boy never twixt those two towns
Or else we'll have a serious Civil War.
  11. Susan L from Canada writes: Hap Stokes - nice try on the geographic correction but, while you're a lot closer than John E. Boy, you're pointing way too far north too. 17th Avenue is correct but it's 17th Ave SOUTH; the TransCanada Hwy is 16 Ave NORTH ~ only about 33 blocks away. But, it's all good you'll find Flames fans celebrating this incredible game all over the city! Now, on to Tuesday!!
  12. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Susan L from Canada ---Oooops

My wife claims I always have trouble with directions. But I did actually know better. Even though I'm a dummy from N.S. Just a temporary brain cramp Susan.
  13. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Owen Nolan. That name rings a bell. Owen Nolan, did he not play for a team out East for a while? Didnt they (if I remember correctly) pay him out because he was USELESS as a player. Am I dreaming this or is this fact? Somebody help me figure this out.
  14. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Sorry PC you are incorrect. Nolan was great for the Leafs during his limited time there.

It was a good trade... he hurt his knee.

    Cheers
  15. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Owen Nolan. That name rings a bell. Owen Nolan, did he not play for a team out East for a while? Didnt they (if I remember correctly) pay him out because he was USELESS as a player

By golly PC it does ring a bell.
Ohh who could it be Nolan played for once?
Wasn't Montreal was it?---No no wasn't them they like small players!
Was it Ottawa? Naw maybe the Bruins? No No they like big players.
Oh my good God, was it those overly star studded Maple Leafs?
By gosh Mr PC, I think Nolan once played for Toronto didn't he?
Come to think of it didn't they have a goal tender name CuJo too?
That's the big problem with a team that gets too good (like T.O.)
    Go Leafs Go
  16. George S from Toronto, Canada writes: Great comeback for Calgary, I had already written this game off after they were down by 3. Glad I was wrong and thanks for the surprise Calgary!
  17. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Cute Hap Stokes.... why don't you try addressing my comments when I am actually talking to you?

I've tried a couple times.... you have suggested you played "real" hockey in your day.... so did I. Still do actually.

Vancouver fan aren't you? Guess your team did about as well as mine.

    Cheers
  18. David M from St. John's, Canada writes: Enjoy it while you can Calgary..........cause you wouldn't buy a Stanley cup if you had every last cent of oil money sucked out of the ground.....
  19. made in canada from Canada writes:
boy, when old "RUSTY MIKE" pulled Kiper and put in CuJo the Flames to a man also pulled up their socks. Great game.
  20. Canadian In Motown from United States writes: Boy was I jumping in those last couple minutes. Woke my whole house up with that fourth goal! Flames in '08!!! But how'd they miss two open net attempts? That's a little disconcerting.
  21. R A from Canada writes: I only saw the 1st but had a feeling that something was up after that hit on Marlowe...man, that was bone crunching.

Hope to see Calgary go deep...great to see Cujo back in action. I envy you guys, my team could use a Phaneuf.
  22. Wilf Kruggel from Canada writes: Hap Stokes, there are alot of flame fans in Edmonton as they are an Alberta team and indeed Whyte ave is in Edmonton and yes it has been used for the Oiler celebrations long before the Flames won their first cup or did they win one. After all, the cup score is 5-zip or is it 5-1? Tell me! Wilf
  23. A A from Canada writes: Holy Moly! I went to bed after the 2nd period thinking the Sharks would win 3-2.

    Way to go Flames
  24. Doc B from Canada writes: That was the best game I have seen in years. What a hit by Sarich. Great effort by the whole team.

Wilf - 1989, the only visiting team to ever win the Cup at the Mtl Forum

    GO FLAMES GO !!!!!!!!!!
  25. John - from BC Interior, Canada writes: The only thing remotely satisfying about that game last night was the play of Cujo - nice to see the old guy play so well. Regardless of how good a regular season they can bumble through, San Jose just blows in the playoffs. As much as I wanted them to demolish the Flames, they just don't seem to have enough character to do so.

Joe Thornton reminds me of Bertuzzi, a big, lazy oaf, throwing blind passes left and right. At least Bertuzzi is willing to deliver a solid hit. Hey Joe! You aren't made of china! If the guy has any pride, he'll show us naysayers what he's made of in Game 4.
  26. Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: This is going to be a long series and will be the best of the first round. I have been predicting the Flames in 7 which is why I stayed away from the Sharks in my pool. Hopefully all those guys who picked Nabakov will be out :-)

Seriously though, great game by the only Canadian team I can cheer for. I may have bitter memories of Nolan as a Leaf, but I'm glad to see he is still playing well. As for Cujo, I was always a huge fan even after he left the Leafs. I think that was exactly the shot in the arm the Flames needed and I'm sure Kipper will be much better in Game 4. All the pressure is on the Sharks and Thorton. He needs to come through big time or all the naysayers will be all over him.
  27. NotASpoiledAthelete - from Canada writes: Hap wrote:

Yeah - Nolan was a massive bust here and spent the better part of his last year here injured. And Cujo CHOSE to leave T.O. to go to Detroit for more money than he would get here..

So he was greedy, and we all know how karma paid him back in spades! (Oh the laughs I had that year..)

Good for him on the comeback, but if he signed a one year deal - then for sure he's going to ask for a king's ransom for next year..
  28. Sev Scott from Cowtown, Canada writes: Great comeback, but again, what has the game of hockey become so hard to officiate? Players now have no idea what they are being called for, as shown by Sarich going to the box. Announcers are mistaken more often than not as well. Let's go back to one good referee and not two half-*ssed referees. Let's ask Bruce Hood and Andy Van Hellemond to come back and get rid of these jokers.
  29. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Bobby S.. I picked SJ in the long run.... I'm getting killed on Aneheim/Dallas.. you picked Dallas? Good for you dude.

    Cheers
  30. Sue City from Canada writes: Man, wish I didn't go to bed after the first period.
  31. Doc B from Canada writes: NotASpoiledAthelete - the Leafs actually offered more Cujo more money he left because he wanted to win a Cup, something he knew the Leafs were incapable of doing. 42 years and counting (yes I'm counting next year too).
  32. NotASpoiledAthelete - from Canada writes: Doc B - I stand corrected..and just exactly how DID Cujo do in his attempt to win the Cup? :)
Be weary the wagon you choose to hitch your Stanley Cup parade to my friend..the Leafs know all about losing and we wanted to KEEP this guy so that should tell you something..
  33. Alistair McLaughlin from Canada writes: Scot Louks, the Leafs did not trade Nolan. They bought his contract out because they thought he was finished. (And he did miss the entire first season after the lockout.) As for the game, what a comeback. And it all hinged on a single big hit by Cory Sarich, which triggered SJ retaliation, which triggered a roughing call, which triggered a quick PP goal by the Flames and they were right back in it. DAMN that was good. Watch for Kipper to redeem himself next game as well. He never has two bad games in a row.
  34. Neil Garret from Canada writes: Calgary is the only Canadian team with the potential to win the Stanley Cup. Big, bold and strong..
Montreal is good and skillful but they will not be able to sustain skill levels in the face of the bruising Play-off style of the Western teams.

Ottawa should play in the ladies league. No character.
I am glad Toronto is out - since they lack both character and skill.
  35. Nicolas Perrot from Ottawa, Canada writes: Neil Garret from Canada writes: Ottawa should play in the ladies league. No character.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. My sens are indeed quite bland. Perhaps if they'd be in the west conference they'd get better... But then they'd have to move to saskatoon and compete with the Blades. lol
  36. Wilf Kruggel from Canada writes: Doc B, 1989, was that the same year that Steve Smith scored a goal in his own net off Grant Fuhrs Skate which put the oilers out of the playoffs and the Flames in to go on to win the cup? Just wondering!
  37. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Alistair McLaughlin .... sorry... I was talking about the trade that got Owen to Toronto... not how he got to Calgary.

    Cost us a lot....

Remember when he pointed at the top right against Hasek in the AllStar game? Loved it.

    Cheers
  38. boom boom from Canada writes: Great hit. Great comeback.
    No change, Flames in six.
  39. Doc B from Canada writes: Wilf, that was in 1986. That year we lost to the Habs in the final. Funny stuff, thanks for reminding me.
  40. Laura Dover from Canada writes: Gradually, I have come to believe that the only way we'll have the cup back in Canada is if we can manage to get 2 Canadian teams into the final. This will only happen if we can get 4 Canadian teams in the semi-final. To get 8 Canadian teams into the quarter final, we're going to annex a few US hockey states.
  41. Rob C from Canada writes: Claude has never let the facts get in the way of taking a shot at the Leafs...
  42. Neil no more last name from Mississauga, Canada writes: Nolan and Cujo big part of huge comeback. Nice!

Both wanted out of Toronto, both have good foresight, both made good decisions.

Love Calgary's style of Play. Potential to go far in playoffs. Sure wish Tanguay would take the shot more often.

SJ is giving it to me with no lube. Dumb to think they'd break out of their playoff slump. there goes the Pool. Anaheim too those chumps.
  43. Jake ---- from Canada writes: Well I went to work on 4 hours sleep today. But what a game the Sarich hit was a amazing. As others have already stated..It changed the game.
The playoff hockey in the West has been way better flow, Montreal and Ottawa have played boring trap hockey.
  44. J F from Vancouver, Canada writes: I like how this article is buried in the sports section...why wasn't this on the front page like the article about the Montreal.

Smarten up already Globe and Mail.
  45. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: .... why don't you try addressing my comments when I am actually talking to you?

Sorry Scot didn't mean to be rude.--I'm just kinda dumb!
You guessed right on most things.
Used to be very advent Bruins 'follower' on the Atlantic. But tangled up in the lower shrubs. Now frustrated Knucklehead on the Pacific.
Still Red Sox fan. --Saw Ted Williams hit his last HR at Fenway.
Even a Boston Braves fan (back when)
Before they moved to Milwaukee/Atlanta -Do you get my drift Scot?

Glad you still have your knees left to play, wish to hell I did.
Trust me Scot there are a few friends that have the same wish.

Only contact now is drinking beer with a bunch of old gimpy ex jocks
We get pretty good after 6/7 brews though. The tales we DO TELL.
For instance one rookie actually played JUNIOR with Gordie Howe.
The 'Kid' really did too (play with Howe). Got the picture yet Scot?

Thank God for sex, beer and the Internet which allows me to:
Torment you Sapple Laffer faithful in Cabbageville. Go Leafs Go

Have a great day Scot, I gotta go finish building 2 staircases or get my ear chewed off which means I get no cuddly warm I/C tonight. ---Bye
  46. John Smith from Calgary, Canada writes: J F, a Toronto Liberal-mouthpiece rag like the G&M can't change overnight. Let it be.

As for the SJ-Flames series, I think the Sarich hit on Marleau will be seen as the one that propelled Calgary into the second round. I don't think SJ has the character to rebound after such a demoralizing defeat.

CuJo could be to Calgary this year what Gelinas was to Calgary in 2004. I still can't believe that Gelinas didn't tackle a referee to get his Stanley Cup winning goal reviewed. Do you remember that crime?
  47. Hap Stokes from Canada writes: Please Flames don't wake up Joe (with insults).
    Let sleeping Lions sleep.
  48. B Fulsom from Menlo Park, United States writes: Ugly. I've got one foot off the Sharks bandwagon. If they can't hold a lead to win against Calgary after chasing Kipper for three goals in three minutes, they don't deserve the Cup.

The Flames outmuscled the Sharks in every battle on the boards. Terrible team defense: running around their own end, bad break-out passes, unable to hold the point. Invisible top line. Homer Drew Remenda was right on the money when he named names and ripped these guys a new one at the end of the Sharks broadcast.

And why the h didn't Wilson call a time-out when he was down by a goal with a PP and only two minutes left? Make up a play, give your guys a rest, do something! Don't just yell "Let's go!" from behind the bench. A first round exit this year means his job.
  49. M Poland from Calgary, Canada writes: David M. Calgary won't have to purchase the Cup [ IF we get there this season ]--we will have EARNED it. Rather a difference, there, Turnip. What a clean hit by Saarich, eh, folks?
  50. Tiana ng from Toronto, Canada writes: I am so glad to see Cujo playing great hockey again. Lead fans know why he left. The MLS organization is controlled by incompetent management and all they want is money. He wanted to win a Stanley cup and he knew he would never get one here. We can't even made the playoff after he left. His outstanding goal tending has kept the Leaf in the playoff and covered up the porous defense. His has also made a lot of contribution towards the charity work, especially with kids and the Sick kids Hospital in Toronto. He had been unlucky and the treatment from Detroit was ridiculous.
