Toronto transit strike no option, Premier says

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said Friday that his government would consider introducing legislation declaring public transit an essential service – a move that would bar Toronto Transit Commission workers from walking off the job. "If the (City of Toronto) approached us with such a request, that is something we would consider," Mr. McGuinty told reporters.
