D. B. from Greater Sask., Canada writes: These two teams have their own long history in facing each other in the playoffs. Boston came out ahead in the 80s, I am sure. I don't know about the 90s and after. Playoff hockey is another animal. Sometimes, the clearly better team still needs seven games to dispatch the enemy. And victory in game 7 wil have nothing to say about how far either team will proceed afterwards.

Rob Rocket from Thunder Bay, Canada writes: I said to a couple of friends over pops, just before the regular season ended, that it could be a disaster if we drew Boston in the first round. Losing streaks, after all, snap. We've got loads of good young talent and a great future -- if it ends badly for us Monday, remember what the Islanders had to go through to establish their dynasty -- two or three really bad playoff chokes. I'd just like Koivu to have a taste of the old punchbowl. I'm not sure many players deserve that moment more than he does.
But game seven ain't over, and if the Habs can get their speed going on the larger ice surface, my money's still on them.- Posted 19/04/08 at 10:29 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Clearly we haven't seen the Habs' best yet - and that's been the problem the whole series.
The defensive breakdowns were horrible. All they had to do was get it to OT tonight, where the added pressure on Boston would really have been an advantage.
Price was on his game. Koivu was a great boost. And they frittered it away.
Don't think you can blame Kovalev totally, aside from the laziness that led to the go-ahead goal. But he needs to go wire-to-wire on monday.- Posted 19/04/08 at 10:38 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

I disagree. With the shots that hit the posts and a couple missed chances, the habs are lucky it wasn't 8-4 tonight.

Claude Julien is one of the NHL's best coaches. It's no surprise this is going seven games. Bruins worked their tails off. Canadiens scored some beautiful goals and so did Boston. Both Price and Thomas were excellent. The third period was wide-open, nail biting, pulse pounding stuff. Each team paid for its mistakes, and Montreal made one too many. Sturm's winner was worthy of the great battles between the these two teams. Milan Lucic, wow, what a player he has been so far. Koivu and Bouillon gave gutsy performances. A couple bad bounces, and a couple real bad cases of blown defensive coverage. I think Boston is the one playing over their heads now. Hopefully, Tuesday morning, the Bruins are booking tee off times, not flights to Pittsburgh.
On another note, why do some people feel a need to spew hate on this thread? Bob Smith, did the Candien's bus run over someone dear to you? Is your whole pitiful life based on whether the Habs advance to the next round or not? Maybe you should get a life?- Posted 20/04/08 at 2:59 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

T J from Canada writes: Lest we forget: During the 2004–05 lockout season 388 NHL players played in European leagues. Many of them, who bumped some players off their respective teams are playing in the playoffs now while many others are watching from the sidelines.
Now, with the huge salaries, the old-fashioned "money players" have virtually disappeared.- Posted 20/04/08 at 3:11 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Richard Hawrelak from Sarnia, Canada writes: Boston in 7. They have what is known as momentum. The Hab Ruskies are not up to the playoff grind. Price, keep on your feet. The minute you go down, you're just another dead duck. Last goal by Boston was a perfect example. I called it when he first went down. Then, he rolled over on his back and all he could see was the rafters ... and the red light.

steve allan from Canada writes: If nothing else the NHL will be very happy. Just think, round two starts next week and there will likely be no Canadian representation. How many more years without a Stanley Cup winner from Canada does the NHL need to sell the game south of the border? Fifty....seventy?
At least Bettman will be happy.- Posted 20/04/08 at 3:50 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Couldn't agree with you more. I have been disgusted with the behaviour of the Habs fans this spring. Their arrogance and ignorance has never been more apparent than their habit of singing their silly victory song long before victory is assured. I expected better from Canadian hockey fans who supposedly are better than their southern neighbours in the area of good sportsmanship (NOT).- Posted 20/04/08 at 5:39 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Relax!
Montreal fans sing... Always have, always will... All sports fan should sing in support of their team during the playoffs... Ever attend a soccer or rugby match in Europe?
Laffs fans don't understand this because they are generally a bunch of boring corporate types, and haven't had anything to sing about since 1967...
I trust the folks posting these sorts of comments have never attended a playoff game at the Old Forum or the Bell Centre... You would likely be singing too if you were there.
Go Habs... One more time...
Cheers.- Posted 20/04/08 at 9:16 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
