  1. Nicolas Perrot from Ottawa, Canada writes: What an awsome game ! Really thought the ducks would win this one after the 1st and 2nd. They were strong and organized. Anaheim would've won the series if it went to game 7 so dallas had to win. Weak goal by Turco but performed nicely afterwards. Super job from rookie stars defence ! How many shots for the ducks ? The stars play an agressive exciting trap. Wonder how far they'll go in the second round.
  2. Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada writes: Ducks were doomed by their arrogance and by the selfish actions of Niedermeyer and Selanne who really damaged the team. Good riddance to them.
  3. Tom Sawyer from Canada writes: Too bad to see them go out. They just couldnt put it together against Dallas who played well. Will be interesting to see if they can maintain momentum or if it was all adrenaline. The West really does have better hockey.
  4. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: How many penalty minutes did Pronger take this series? He was horrible.

I picked Anaheim but didn't take any of them in my pools.... didn't take any Stars either.

Anybody know when Zubov might come back? Dallas would look a lot better with him there.

    Cheers
  5. Johann Decruyff from Chaozhou, Guangdong, Bolivia writes: have to agree with jasper. niedermayer and selanne (as great as those two have been) really made themselves look a bit foolish by keeping the team on the hook for half the season on whether or not they would return. had they just retired outright they could have been replaced and there would have been no disruption on the team. i know that may not have made any difference during the season or playoffs but the way they hummed and hawed about coming back or not invited bad karma. glad to see the ducks season end early.
  6. boom boom from Canada writes: Good riddance Ducks.
  7. tom h from Edmonton, Canada writes: Good riddance to the dirtiest team in hockey. Loved the look on Pronger's face when he went off for that last cross-checking penalty. (Although the way the refs let them get away with all the goal-crashing and everything else, I almost don't blame him for being surprised that a penalty was actually called.)
  8. R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: I guess that JS Giguere will be returning to Nova Scotia earlier this summer?

Good luck to Prince Edward Island's Brad Richards in Dallas' next series...

    Cheers.
  9. D W from Switzerland writes: yeah, go Richards! one thing: error in the AP story above, where the writers says Marty Turco took the blame for Stars early exit in 2007: not true. Unlike earlier postseasons (2003. 06), everybody saw Turco played great (2 shutouts?), but the team let him down last postseason
  10. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: ok people now is your chance to trash the ducks like you did the sens
  11. George S from Toronto, Canada writes: Congrats to the Stars- they took out a good opponent. I think Dallas might go far in the West.
  12. Bill Weston from Grand Rapids, MI, United States writes: Hopefully now the rest of the league will stop trying to imitate the Ducks dirty style of play.

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada.. according to todays Dallas Morning News, Zubov is still listed as 'out indeffinately.'

Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada.. I agree, the actions of Niedermeyer and Selanne were straight up selfish and, dare I say, egotistical?
  13. Bill M from Canada writes: Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: ok people now is your chance to trash the ducks like you did the sens

Not going to happen Sissy. Leafs fans (not to be confused with hockey fans) stopped watching or paying any attention to hockey once they got to call the Sens chokers. They think the Stanley Cup Playoffs are some television series that airs in the spring each year.
  14. Tom Sawyer from Canada writes: You're right Bill M - Ontario hockey is pretty pathetic with the two fan bases merely sniping at each other.
  15. Jay D from Canada writes: Bill M wrote: Not going to happen Sissy. Why mention the Sens here? Didn't they just get swept out of the playoffs, thus winning exactly as many post season games as the Leafs? Leafs and Sens had equally horrible seasons.

Anaheim, for all their studs on the defense, never addressed their scoring deficiency and ultimately that is what ousted them from these playoffs. ANA was 27th or 28th in goal scoring this year. That's not going to win a cup. DAL used to have the same problem (strong D and weak scoring), but this year their scoring has been decent. I like their chances to at least make the conference finals.
  16. Gogh Forit from Canada writes: Ok Sissy: Glad to see the Ducks roasted. Now with both Stanley Cup finalists gone it paves the way for Pittsburgh to take the Cup.
  17. D G from Canada writes: Couldn't happen to a nicer trio of guys than Burke, Pronger and Bertuzzi.
  18. Irish 222 from Ottawa, Canada writes: How appropriate that the Ducks season ends with Pronger in the penalty box. Nice to see the goon Bertuzzi won't be winning a Cup. I wonder if he will blame his goonish behaviour this year on Carlyle?
  19. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: just testing the hypocrisy of leafs fans - that's all
    so far only one taker

    penguins and colorado anyone?
  20. Tim Cares from Canada writes: I guess that means the Leafs don't want Burke anymore. Heck, getting eliminated in the first round is not good enough for us here.
Burke is clearly not good enough.
  21. David Gehring from Ottawa, Canada writes: The Ducks franchise has brought endless shame to the NHL. To have a team named after a bad Disney movie (that mocks the sport of hockey) exist in the league and even win the Stanley Cup is a travesty, and only perpetuates the commercialization of a league that abandoned its grassroots fan-base long ago and destroyed what little credibility it could have had with a wider world audience. Bravo to Dallas for knocking off the Mouseketeers. It may not stem the tide of continuous rule changes, gimmicky team names and uniforms, circus-side-show All-Star games, or having a bingo tournament determine the entry draft order, but at least it provides some solace in knowing that honour and dignity will win out every now and then.
  22. Carl Baldin from Canada writes: Great to see Modano et al beat these dirty jerks. Burke (GM) & Pronger are the biggest jerks in hockey and got away with so many infractions last year & this spring...when the league should have fined them both.

Dallas is a good team and I am happy for Modano - a class act, & Turco. Hopefully the Flames will meet them in the playoffs!!!????
  23. You know me as Dije from Ottawa, Canada writes: Turco was due. Last season he played amazing (even better than Luongo IMO) and I honestly thought Anaheim would beat them too. Dallas definately has to factor into predictions for the conference finals now.

If San Jose and Anaheim both fall in the first round... would make a very interesting second round indeed!
  24. paddy o'reilly from Canada writes: Loved seeing cheap shot Pronger finish the game in the box. Loved seeing Burke's sour puss.

Hope Yzerman invites Scott Niedermyer but not Pronger ( the world class embarrassment) to the World Cup team.

Picked Morrow and Richards in my hockey pool. . . lookin good. Wished I'd picked Turco instead of Nabokov. Seldom see him play, always impressed.

Speaking of Richards, wish they'd get him some decent wingers to play with. So many perfect set ups to yawning nets those Finish clowns flubbed.

    Go Flames.
  25. Joe Calgarian from Canada writes: Gee, no story book ending for Niedermayer after all. Hey Pronger, how's those child support payments going? Maybe you can go up to Edmonton and see your b*stard child in the offseason. Loser.
  26. Ian m from New York (via Vancouver), United States writes: Great game by Robidas

Good riddance to that bunch of thugs.
  27. L M87 from Calgary, Canada writes: Works out nice for the Oilers!!! Anaheim's pick will be around 18th to 20th vs. the 12th pick we gave up.
  28. tom h from Edmonton, Canada writes: Irish 222 and Paddy O'Reilly:

Close, but not quite; our good friend Pronger was no longer in the box when the game ended, because his penalty ended with Modano's empty net goal. (Which still felt pretty damn good.)
  29. Sober Second Thought from Toronto, Canada writes: Pronger was the Captian? No wonder they lost! With all of those other leaders on the team they picked the worst one available.
  30. Irish 222 from Ottawa, Canada writes: Tom h. ..quite right. I stand corrected. In my excitement, I forgot about the empty netter with 4 seconds left..but close enough for me!
  31. Ken Stanley from Fort Frances Ontario, Canada writes: I wonder what Pronger's /_ was over the series? It looked like he was on the ice for the first three goals against, and the last, well, in the penalty box is just as bad. What an overpaid lump of meat! I suppose he will go whining to management asking to be traded to a team that has a better chance of winning the cup. Edmonton, he did you a favour by leaving.
  32. bob jones from Vancouver, Canada writes: Burke to the Canucks within 2 weeks..
  33. Cowboy Bob from Calgary, Canada writes: The best thing about the playoffs, is that Prongo is now gone, hopefully he will get involoved in some skirmish in southern California and accidently expire. Go Flames
  34. J R Ewing from Dallas, Texas, United States writes: I was at the game, and it was very exciting to see the fans get into it. Dallas people love them some hockey, and the noise in the building was electric. There were quite a few empty seats around the arena, but it is so much fun listening to Texans talk about hockey with a southern accent. The section I was in had quite a few knowledgeable fans, and they brought their kids as well. Tom Hicks has done a scintillating job getting this team out in the community, and building a generation of fans with youth leagues, and affordable ticket prices. GO STARS!!!
  35. Robert Marshall from Scarborough, Canada writes: Why didn't they have the headline "Ducks seeing Stars" ?

Anyways it should be interesting to see what the matchups will be in the 2nd round (for the ones that haven't been finalized)
  36. wayne powers from saskatoon, writes: Burke is a firm believer in the Fred Shero school of dirty hockey, and I didn't like it 30 years ago so why should it be acceptable today. Calgary plays the same way and slam bam hockey isn't and wasn't hockey the way I want to watch.
Shero had a few skilled players and surrounded them with a group of thugs, and won some Stanley Cups. Burke loves guys like Bertuzzi and Pronger, who play dirty hockey knowing the ref can't call a penalty every minute. The Oilers in their hayday had Gretz and a body guard who protected him, and allowed him to be a skilled player.
  37. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Anaheim gone, Ottawa gone, Leafs long gone, I hope Montreal not gone, but I do hope Detroit gone before long. Its NASCAR season, who cares about hockey at this time of year.
  38. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: So is Burke coming to Toronto? To work that is?
  39. Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver, Canada writes: Burke replaced Dustin Penner with Todd Bretuzzi (at nearly the same salary!) and traded Andy McDonald for Doug Weight (!)

And I think it is fair to say the quality of the Ducks' draft selections has plummeted the last 3 or 4 years.

Yup, Burke's work in California is done - he can go to Toronto now.

Bertuzzi has not been an effective scorer since Pronger cross-checked him in the small of the back 694 times in the 2003 playoffs.
  40. max from edmonton from Canada writes: As an Edmonton Oiler fan it is a hard pill to swallow cheering for the Stars (so much misery caused by that crew)

But what sweet bliss to see the Ducks dumped!

Now back to wishing defeat on the Stars, Penguins and Avs in the final!
