Ontario's plight is too important to ignore

Ontario premiers have moaned for quite a while about their province being fleeced within Canada. Nobody, including most Ontarians, paid any attention. NDP premier Bob Rae in the early 1990s governed through a bad recession and nagged Ottawa constantly about Ontario's problems. All Ontario wanted, he claimed, was a "fair deal." Mike Harris, a Conservative, picked up the same refrain. He was always grousing about poor treatment from Liberal governments in Ottawa.
