John S from packalunchville, Canada writes: Well I guess everyone's in shock or something so I'll be the first. I dumped all over Wells the other day because he'd gone something like 1 for 24 and looked like he did last year. I'm more than happy to eat those words. Looks like aaron Hill's coming around too. I think the thing I like the most is getting the lead and holding onto it like grim death. Great pitching. Okay Gibbons gets a 2 week reprieve.

Randy Farrell from Canada writes: Seems to me the whole team needs a reprieve from those like me who were ready to count them out...neither team could really have gotten more hits with the kind of pitching we saw today. But the skeptic in me says it's still early.

Matthew Goff from Toronto, Canada writes: Like Greg Zaun said at the end of the game when asked about the turn around, 'it's just baseball'. I was at big Frank's last game v Detroit and so many jays hit the ball straight into the fielders mitt....a yard to the left or right it was a base hit. Baseball is a game of stats and %'s....and if player hits .320 for the year, conceivably the .680 they he doesn't hit can be lumped into various timeframes. Maybe the Jays collectively have done a lot of their unproductive hitting all at the same time in April. I hope so. But get this: our pitching has been good all year. So say we all.

BB Freak from Canada writes: they win due to great pitching, they have some hitters but not enough to really compete, this is all due to the arrogant Ricciardi circus..get a real g.m. and couple of well considered moves and watch these blue jays fly

Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Halladay battled yesterday for that very well earned win. The guy who goes without praise most of the time is Stairs. He just hits the laces off balls....and an interesting character or so I am told. Good Canadian boy doesn't touch a bat until Spring Training. In the off season, it's beer drinking and hockey...gotta love it. Seriously though, he's a good left stick in the 4 hole and has hit the ball very well over the past couple of weeks.
The Jays pitching staff continues to dominate. Is there anything better than watching a well pitched game from both teams?- Posted 05/05/08 at 7:42 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dwide Schrude from Canada writes: Kudos to the Jays for a nice turnaround at home after an awful road trip.
That having been said, let me just add that this streak was 100% necessary, both the Yanks and the Bosox swept weekend series' of their own and this streak by the Jays really didn't move them any closer to Boston. They need to win the next 2 just to be at 500.
I say support them, but don't go off the deep end and make them feel like heroes, there's still a large hole to climb out of that they dug themselves into at the end of April. Maybe when they're out of last place in the East I'll get excited. Tampa Bay still has the most wins in the last ten games.- Posted 05/05/08 at 8:15 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Willard Kurtz from Toronto, Canada writes: Definitely encouraging but can't get too far ahead of oursleves, they are beating a struggling team in the Chisox at home and they haven't exactly dominated them. The Jays problems last year (particularly in the latter half) stemmed from not being able to get the offense in synch with the pitching and we're seeing the same thing early this year. Who knows maybe this team will be about consistently stingy pitching and not about racking up a lot of runs like some expected at the beginning of the season. I'd be perfectly fine with that but even great pitching needs timely run support. we're starting to see more of that in the last few games.
Anyway, I am ever hopeful that with all the talent they'll put it together and get rolling. A road swing (involving some decent teams) would be a good test after a strong performance at home. I guess Gibbons gets to hang on for a bit longer...Go Jays!- Posted 05/05/08 at 9:12 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

J D from Barrie, Canada writes: I believe the Jays need a new hitting coach. There is no way we should be batting 250 on the season. Very terrible hitting. Pitching Amazing :)

Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: In all honesty, what good is a hitting instructor? All these guys are professional hitters who all have their own way of hitting. With the advent of video these guys look over every one of their at bats and pick up little things here and there that need adjusting. A theorist can talk about the art of hitting all he wants but he isn't the guy stepping into the box.
I'd love to earn a paycheque telling a guy to raise his hands a half inch or pointing out that he may be opening up a touch too early. All this stuff these guys see on video anyways.- Posted 05/05/08 at 11:15 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

John S from takeapillville, Canada writes: Well I'll be the 1st to admit I've been opening up too early. But that and my relative lack of baseball knowledge keep me from taking on the job myself.
Anyway Denbo was hired away from the Yankees with a mandate to improve OBP, pitch selection, preparation and situational hitting. Both Posada and Jeter-2 pretty good hitters- gave him "rave reviews". And he also reportedly helped Bernie Williams and Tino Martinez. Joe Torre liked the job he did too.
Maybe these last 4 games are an indication that his coaching is working. Apparently he uses computer analysis and video and is a tireless worker.
I'd sure be inclined to give him a little slack. Hell they hung on to Brantley for an entire season.- Posted 05/05/08 at 2:39 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
