Montgomery C. Burns from Springfield, Canada writes: Excellent game between the two clubs. Lundqvist made some huge saves and both clubs got some big efforts from their 3rd and 4th lines.
Roszival cost the Rangers with some stupid penalties.- Posted 04/05/08 at 6:02 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Malkin is pretty amazing, isn't he? This game really showed how good and mature the Penguins have become. After getting shutout in NY, the Pens could have panicked, but they stayed on task. Malkin's goal was spectacular, and the Crosby-Hossa combination is looking lethal. The Ovie-Gino comparison is not really a fair one; without the Big O, the Caps would not even be in the playoffs, so Ovie should get the MVP nod. Flyers-Pens will be a bang-bang series.

Doug Malin from Thunder Bay, Canada writes: Oh geez I've been a Ranger fan for over forty years but this team pissed me off from day one. Team Europe with a bunch of over paid Americans thrown in ain't gonna win nothing when the playoffs come. As much as I think at times Don Cherry should retire, he's absolutely right about needing Canadian content when the playoffs come. 7 Canadians on this team. Nice season but you know it's over when the playoffs start.
Maybe I'm wrong and Detroit, another European team might win but I'll be surprised if they do. Oh well hockey season is over for me. As far as I'm concerned it's about time to get rid of Sather. That arrogant idiot left Edmonton because they didn't have the money "to ice a decent team". He's been in New York how long now? And he's won what??? Him and Isaih Thomas are two peas in a pod as far as I'm concerned. Choke on that stogie Glen.- Posted 04/05/08 at 6:29 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Blair Faulkner from Truro NS, writes: This was probably a pretty good game, but if anyone thinks I'm turning down 25 degrees and sunny to watch a Hockey game, no way...when is someone going to clue in the American TV folks that even where people love hockey, it has been a long, cold winter, and afternoon games just don't cut it.

Joseph Daniel from Oakville, Canada writes: Blair I agree with you man, I was at Vic Hadfields(that is an old Ranger for you Doug) hitting a bucket of golf balls and got home to watch the 3rd period and overtime. But afternoon playoff hockey has been around for as long as I remember Blair, and I am old enough to remember the last time a team from Ontario actually won the cup (LOL).

Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Look for the Flyers to continue getting outplayed and outshot. They'll goon it up Philthy style, and then complain all the penalties are being called against them.
We'll see how brave Richards and Hartnell are when they have to answer to Big George and Ruutu.
It should be entertaining.- Posted 04/05/08 at 9:24 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Mariposa Belle from Leacockland, Canada writes: Good close series - but I do have a question on this game specifically and the Game in general.
Drury gets clipped by Malone for fifteen stitches and there are 4 zebras that don't see it. Drury clips Malone, repaired by a patch and Drury goes for 4 - setting the Rangers back on their heels for the OT.
Refs have to call what they see (supposedly), but why do we need them cluttering the ice. Get rid of the linesmen, the elimination of the two line pass made them redundant - two refs, that's it.
What other sport has the ratio of 4 officials to 12 players, when 2 of the players are stationary.
Oh - and if you are going to use off-ice video officials - it might be a two way street - on ice zebras asking 'can you see why I can not award a goal' to the off-ice officials, when blood is drawn from a high stick - pointing out the opposing player for a penalty or confirming that a team mate hit him.
One last thing - why can't the NHL give the refs wireless headsets. Even the Belle has figured out wireless communications - why hasn't a professional sports league?- Posted 04/05/08 at 10:37 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

michael molyneaux from Calgary, Canada writes: The Pens took a major gamble trading some good young players to Atlanta. It looked like it paid off in the end. If Pitsburgh won the cup it pays off, if the dont Hossa packs his bags and goes west to a team that can afford him. He has finally made an impact on the team. Right now it looks like it is going to be a great eastern confrence showdown; battle of Pensylvania. They should all go crash Hersey and hold the series their!
My own an opinion is that Detriot will win but that is my own opinion.- Posted 04/05/08 at 11:27 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Agree with all you points Mariposa... accept for the headsets.....Kerry Fraser vetoed that based on what they would do do his hair.
Looks like SJ could actually force a game 7.... who knew. Should SJ manage to pull of another 33 year miracle that would put me 4 for 4 on the second round.... 7 for 8 on the first.... but I expect Dallas to mess me up again.
Do I bet against Dallas over Detroit? I certainly won't pick SJ over Detroit.
I will go out on a limb though and pick Philly over the Pens.

The same type of scenario played out in Montreal Saturday night as well. I think it was Begin that got dinged in the head, twice, by two Flyers swinging at a puck. I thought a penalty was being called when the ref raised his arm, but it was just to blow the play dead for a high stick hitting the puck. But it's always been like this. I remember Gary Roberts taking off from the blue line, full speed ahead, and hitting Kenny Johansen of the Islanders into the boards from behind, knocking him into the next area code and out of the playoffs, and not getting a penalty. I'm sure everyone who watches hockey can give another example.- Posted 05/05/08 at 6:50 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Mowho33 Who from Canada writes: freakin hossa was nothing but a play-off choker bum in ottawa.
i picked the flyers and stars for the cup final after seeing them in game two of their first series. now my picks are almost there! and i've become a big fan of both teams. but i think their next series will definitely be their hardest. they'll need plenty of lucky breaks to make it past the pens and wings, but i still think they can do it. don't know who i'll cheer for in the finals. probably the flyers because they have so many canadians on their teams - 17. one of the highest number of canucks on any team in the post-season after the calgary flames.- Posted 05/05/08 at 7:02 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Didnt you already do that last week? I thought you picked the Wings in five in the Western finals. Hedging already, Scot? ;)
Im glad its the Stars, that means no 10pm start times back here since Dallas is only a time zone away. Glad too that Zubov is playing well and 100% healthy according to Tippett. It will be good to have a series with no excuses either way, ala Foresberg. Wings in 6.
As for the East, I just hope its the Pens. I cant stand the goon squad from Philadelphia.- Posted 05/05/08 at 7:21 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

J K GALBRAITH from Canada writes: Good for Pitttsburgh that Hossa is making a contribution for them in the playoffs. Whether they win the Cup or not, they will of course need to pass on re-signing Hossa as he will take up too much salary room for them to keep some of their other younger stars who still haven't reached their peak (Staal, Whitney, Malone). Pittsburgh can keep renting a player each year or they can pick up an unsigned veteran scorer for a one year contract that will replace some of the scoring that Hossa could provide.
