  1. Margaret Gunning from british columbia, Canada writes: What gets me about these by-the-decades things is the age-ism inherent in them. They always have "20s, 30s, 40s," then "50 and beyond": as if 50 is the same as 85 or 90. What's the deal with lumping together the 3 or 4 decades a woman can expect to live if she is currently in good health? I have nothing against old age, but as far as I am concerned, I'm not there yet (in spite of being a dinosaur of 54), and don't expect to be for a very long time.
