The myth-making power of the TV rumour machine

For reasons that still baffle scientists, people will believe the most extraordinary stories about television.And no, I'm not talking about the endless stream of studies that, one day, tells you that watching TV turns small children into drooling zombies and, the next day, informs you that watching TV turns small children into mini-Einsteins. I'm talking about wild stories, rumours, legends and outright fibs. The truth is out there, but often located in a fog of fuzzy rumour.
