Once all the PB girls started getting boob jobs, it was over. If I want to look at reconstructive surgery, I'll read medical journals.

The 70's were the best--Penthouse-style lighting, reasonable modesty, genuine tan lines, and natural curves.
  14. Dennis sinneD from Calgary, Canada writes: Sean L. from Toronto Center, Canada writes:' not to be mean - but I can walk down bay street on my lunch hour and find 20 women who would make her look like a plain jane...'

And X10 more across Canada. It's weird... we have lovely women here.
  15. Gawd Knows from Canada writes: What a shock this is for me.

    Playboy is still around?

  28. TeePee Kan from Village of Old Yorke, Canada writes: She'll need the $100K to feed the Caddee; must be a slow news day, eh!
  29. Mike B from Canada writes: It is indeed something to be proud of. I'm sure her parents are 'flashing' her pictures all around the local tim hortons'. But if she is really so proud of it, why not use her real name?
  30. Richard Picard from Chelsea, QC, Canada writes: Keep reaching for the stars, girls...keep reaching for the stars.

  35. B Lam from Canada writes: This is such a glorious moment, Harper should mandate Jayde Nicole’s centrefold picture be used as the desktop for all computers in Canada for one year.
  36. Paul Meyer from Trail BC, Canada writes: vincent furnier: That's very good!
Of course, If I had gotten onto my computer earlier, the joke would have been mine! Damn those time zones! Next thing, you Quebec guys will be voting first too.....

BTW: U of Waterloo in the late 70's early 80's?
  37. Patrick P-A from Canada writes: Sean L. from Toronto Center, Canada writes: not to be mean - but I can walk down bay street on my lunch hour and find 20 women who would make her look like a plain jane....

Not trying to start an argument here but you should try taking a stroll down Ste Catherine st in Montreal!!
  38. Marley B from Vancouver, Canada writes: Wasn't Pamela Anderson the Playmate of the Year once?
  39. Craig Cooper from Toronto, writes: Nope. Pamela was not PMOY.

Who was PMOY when Pamela wasn't?
  40. Graham Brown from Sarnia, writes: I checked out her pics this morning at home. Man, this chick is HOT! It was a fabulous 'spread', although I'm a bit put off by her tattoo. I think it could be ignored though. :)
  41. Joe Technicality from Hamilton, Canada writes: R J from Montreal, Canada writes: She looks like she needs a cheese burger. Come on folks let's all chip in and send her a few bucks for lunch @ Ron's Steak House.

Come on - she's from Port Perry. Let's send her for a big chicken and ribs dinner at Haugens, the best place in town. If they marketed this thing right, it could be a win win for her and the restaurant.

Of course, we could entertain other establishments from the P.P. area. Perhaps Wild Wings on Water Street?
  42. foo bar from Canada writes: After doing a quick GIS for her, she has 'respect' tatooed over her bikini area.

Come on Playboy, this was the best you could do this year?
  43. Paul Meyer from Trail BC, Canada writes: Given that Pamela Anderson was born on Centennial Day (July 01, 1967 for you Americans) there have been 31 PMsOY when Pamela 'wasn't.'

They range from Lisa Baker (1967) to our latest winner.

Pamela was a PM in Feb 1990, but the PMOY for that year was Renee Tenison, the first black PMOY BTW. Others may argue that the PMOY for 1991, Lisa Matthews was the one to beat Anderson (including Wikipedia) since she was chosen after Anderson appeared. Matthews is one of the all time greats.
  44. Edmond Dusablon from United States writes: There's pretty girls everywhere, even Canada. I remember seeing a picture of Pam Anderson before she was 'discovered.' Wow! Now, between PB, Hollywood, a few too many drugged out rock star husbands, and a tattoo needle, I wouldn't go near her without a haz-mat bunny suit.
  45. David Rouleau from Canada writes: Take away the Botox, saline pouches and dental caps and she would look like every other Canadian woman...still pretty. Cheers!!
  46. Rain Couver from Canada writes: Playboy obviously does not attract the gorgeous women it used to if Jayde Nicole is the best of year.
  47. Paul, Bytown, from Canada writes: Bay St versus Ste-Catherine... Ste-Catherine wins hands down. After all, you can't compare Corporate stuffiness to European flair and style.
  48. Commander Groovechild from Toronto, Canada writes: The lady is a total fox. I can see her in a beer commercial already.
  49. Douglas Hicton from Trahna, Canada writes: Bad headline. When I first read it, I thought the story would be about Shannon Tweed kicking Gene Simmons to the curb and repatriating herself to Canada -- not that I've been following the news on Shannon Tweed apparently.

And is it just me, or are today's 22-year-olds looking way more -- well, I'll be diplomatic and say MATURE -- than 22-year-olds did when I was her age? Not saying Jayde Nicole is an old hag or anything, but back in the day she probably would have been mistaken for 30.
  50. The Blind Man Is King from Burlytown, Canada writes: If I had a loonie for every 'Jayde' from Port Perry I knew ...

  52. Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada writes: Once again women are duped into presenting themselves as little more than sex objects. And don't give me that 'But it's her choice' argument. That's a lame excuse, because there is so much pressure on women and girls to look good and nothing else. (And BTW, whenever you're turned on by a practically shaved genital area because you think it's sexy, keep in mind that it makes a woman look like a pre-pubescent girl, attractive to rapists, pedophiles.) I work with women's groups and girls and women (and not a few men) are under so much pressure with regard to appearance. Jayde whosit looks like a clone, just like the robotic women on Deal or No Deal. You people ogling this woman make me sick. No wonder the statistics are high for abuse of females. Women like Jayde contribute to females being treated as objects to bat around.
  53. Unknown User! from Canada writes: shes not all that.
  54. Jennifer Rollison from Canada writes: Good post Sue. This article is certainly not newsworthy and it is demeaning to women as are most of the posts. You are, my friend, going to receive some serious backlash here from all the neanderthals...too bad...

georgebrown, as for your comment about jealousy, I think not. Most of us women do not measure ourselves by the 'calibre'(?) of a 'playmate', no, not even the 'playmate of the year', whatever that title means.
  55. David Linton from Canada writes: Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada writes: Once again women are duped into presenting themselves as little more than sex objects. Lighten up....

I hear a hint of hating from the ladies on this board
sippin on that hate-orade too much!
  57. The Blind Man Is King from Burlytown, Canada writes: Sue ... did you just blame Jayde and her appearance for instances of physical abuse against women? According to your argument, shouldn't you be treating her like the victim and not the offender?

The work you do for women's groups, I honestly hope it's not on the front lines.
  58. David Linton from Canada writes: Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor

how do you go from a picture of a Playboy Playmate to rape, is beyond me, explain the logic in that arguement. I stand by my previous post...lighten up...
  59. sonny l from toronto, Canada writes: She's got a bit of that alien look that's so popular today.

    American Apparell ads, good.

    Playboy, kind of dumb.
  60. D F from Canada writes: Congratulations. Certainly an honour for her. Beauty and brains are always a winning combination.
  61. D Mac from Halifax, Canada writes: To the Grand Falls lady:

Yeah this poor girl is being duped into a life of 7 figure hell! When I was 22 I made $5.50 an hour as a mall cop and I had a University Degree and a big student loan. As the ladies say you go girl!

Playboy is pretty tame when compared to some women's magazines like Cosmopolitan. If there's pressure for women to look a certain way its largly being generated by women not men.

    PS

Shannon Tweed is doing pretty good and shes not even a townie
  62. D Mac from Halifax, Canada writes: . . .Meanwhile deep at Conservative party headquarters somebody asks the question. . . "How can we make Stephane Dion look bad with this one?"
  63. Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada writes: I am not treating Ms. Nicole as neither victim nor offender, really, though one could consider as a victim of sorts, of a society that teaches her and others that her apperance - especially when surgically enhanced - is more important than the brains inside. And to answer your question, thank you, the women and girls that I work with feel as I do are on the front line thank you very much! They are very tired of the abuse and of women being abuse because they are seen as just property. To the folks who say "lighten up," I won't until women truly are recognized for their accomplishments and not their bustline. (BTW breasts aren't for ogling but for feedlng your youngsters!). I encourage girls and women to find real role models on a local, national and international level. Not plastic people. I recently interviewed a teenager (and not the "geek type!), a smart girl in Grade 11 who's been winning major science fair awards for research into the cancer-fighting properties of yew trees. She could be famous someday for that research. And people will benefit from it. Can the playmates say the same? (BTW I used to like the race car driver Danica Patrick....until she posed for SI's swimsuit issue.) Just a rant, but a justified one. And thanks, Jennifer, for your comments!
  64. D Mac from Halifax, Canada writes: Come on Ms Hickey the world has moved on- why can't you? This is not 1970 and you are not Gloria Steinam

I don't believe your rant is justified at all. When you say society I hope you are reffering to men and women. -

Some of us are born with looks...some with brains but you can be beautiful and smart. The two are not exclusive just as easily as one could in fact be ugly and dumb.

Ironically if you look at the literature you'll find that people who don't adhere to the standard beauty both men and women tend to make less then those with so-called looks.

I think we pay all celebrity types too much (men and women) no matter how talented or not and we ask very little of them. That is the bigger issue.
  65. The Blind Man Is King from Burlytown, Canada writes: Sue, from what I can decipher of our post it sounds like you're pigeonholing women yourself here.

To stop liking a role model just because she decides to celebrate her physical attributes seems a bit short-sighted. Did she cease to be intelligent/groundbreaking/respect-worthy just because she appeared in a (may I add non-pornographic) magazine?

Let me put it to you this way: If your ungeeky "smart girl" actually does go on to cure cancer based on her yew tree research and then (because beauty isn't restricted only to brainless bimbos) appears in Science Illustrated's swimsuit issue, would her achievements be any less impressive in your eyes?

I ask you: Can't a woman be celebrated for her beauty and her brains at the same time?

p.s. To ascribe but one function for a woman's breast is to limit such a wondrous organ to only its most basic role.
  66. Gogh Forit from Canada writes: Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor N.L. : If you are outraged by this and the blatant use of females as sex objects, etc., you should direct your rage/commentary at the Dairy Queen ad where a cute little girl uses her charms to beguile a gullible boy out of a DQ treat. The tag line when the girls finishes batting her eyes and giving the boy a little cutesy wave is "Just like shooting fish in a barrel" to which her mother stares at her dumbfounded. I don't think you can hang blame on Playboy or men for that matter on this issue. Women have an inherent desire to beautify themselves. I haven't met a woman yet who doesn't take every opportunity to smear herself with lotions looking for that product that will make her skin soft and glowing. As well, the vast majority of women go ga-ga over clothes and shoes and it's not the sneakers that attract women of all ages. While you certainly have a point with those people who desire their female partners to shave themselves completely there are also many young men who also shave their pubic hair because as one put it, it makes everything smoother. I, for one, don't see the attraction but apparently many women do. Everywhere women are preening themselves whether it's playing with their hair or compulsively checking to see if they are presentable. This could be exclusively for men but it's just as much for the acceptance of their female peers. There's nothing new about this. It's been going on for thousands of years. According to anthropologists and behaviour scientists, women would if they could, choose two males to partner with. One, younger and one older. The older male they identify as being the one who can help raise her children as they are better at nuturing. The younger male they would have for sex and the idea that his sperm is healthier and therefore would provide her with the best chances to have healthy children. However, men are not warm to this idea, especially older ones.
  67. Gogh Forit from Canada writes: Seventy comments and not one mention of Vancouver's Dorothy Stratten. Geez even Bryan Adams wrote a song about her. Unfortunately her husband killed her and then himself due to jealously issues.
She was probably one of THE most beautiful women who has ever appeared in Playboy. Playmate of the Year 1980
  68. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: Excellent news...can't wait to see more
  69. Jennifer Rollison from Canada writes: Blind, this girl is a 'role-model'??? For who, your daughters?...hahaha, fool...
  70. TNSFAN BOOKER from Toronto, Canada writes: Hey Sue Hickey,

The PMOY went to George Brown and owns her own modelling agency (and by the sounds of it, at 22, she's a somewhat experienced model). All "talent" jokes aside, winning the PMOY title and $100K, along with being an entrepreneur (and CANADIAN, to boot), is something to celebrate, no? So what if she has leveraged her marketable looks to make $$? Kudos to Jayde for starting off at such a young age. Are you now going to say Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise/Will Smith shouldn't be in the movie business because he only sells movies because of his looks??!

Bottom line: the world isn't always fair. It certainly can't hurt to be blessed with looks.
  71. Mary Smith from United States writes:

Another woman pimping her body. Honorable? Don't make me laugh.

Anna Nicole Smith; a perfect example of the standard (zero intellect, talent) needed to become playmate of the year.
  72. Cosmo Spacely from Canada writes: She kind of looks like Terri Hatcher with bad plastic surgery...
  73. Mom Ottawa from ottawa, Canada writes: Yeah Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise/Will Smith got their break because of their looks?
If they had modeled in those kinds of photos at this girl’s age, it would have been in a gay men&8217;s magazine and their careers would be non-existent. Is Playgirl still around? The world does not celebrate stupid men with buff bods the way it does stupid women with fake bods.
Let&8217;s stop promoting this kind of stuff for women. A role model for young girls? Haha
Playboy and that entire industry is all about money. Nothing more.
Hugh Hefner needs to spend the rest of his life in church.
Yes women love clothes and shoes and makeup. Don't insult us for that. Everyone should have the right to look their best.
  74. Carolyn Bongiorno from Glenham, NY USA, United States writes: @George Brown III:

I've noticed that when I write to the G&M I can say the exact same thing as one of your countrymen, yet some letter writers turn on my comment and not the others. I gotta assume it's my address.

    A tad jealous, perhaps?
  75. Wanda Fyooka from Vancouver, Canada writes: Yawn! Another bimbo whose only asset is her body and her only talent is taking off her clothes.....
  76. Dan P from Calgary, Canada writes: There's no denying that PB objectifies women, but the question is, is there something wrong with that? It should be pretty clear by now that PB is actually far more respectful of women than many of its non-nudie contemporaries - if you want disrespectful, try Maxim, Details, or their ilk - one step away from porn, but with an attitude that really treats women like objects of entertainment rather than people.
Throughout history, virtually all cultures have celebrated some beauty standard in women. The standards have varied, of course - body type, body adornments, etc. are tremendously different between cultures, but the existence of some standard has been very constant. So why fret about it? Men are attracted to some socially-defined standard of beauty in women. There's nothing inherently evil about that. Good for Ms. Nicole.
  77. Matt Wold from Vancouver BC, United States writes: I'm not obssessed with Playboy. BUT my father is and I just purchased a very funny present for him, but VERY unique. I wonder if she's included? It's ALL of the Playboy centerfolds (ever) in one complete collection. It's enormous and my father will be ecstatic (hopefully this won't induce heart failure...). It's 50% off on Amazon.ca

  78. Steve Not an Alberta Redneck from Calgary, Canada writes: Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada writes: "Once again women are duped into presenting themselves as little more than sex objects................. there is so much pressure on women and girls to look good and nothing else................ I work with women's groups and girls and women (and not a few men) are under so much pressure with regard to appearance."

This is so out of date. Most women shoot themselves in the foot with this attitude.

Since the 70's, it is actually men who have had the greater pressure from this. This comes from setting their sights on a small minority of men - good looking with money and a laundry list of other "must have" attributes - seldom under their control. The birth control pill and changing morays allow women to bed these types but seldom land them. And these guys will even apologize to their buddies the next morning about the quality of their choice of entertainment.

A situation at work illustrates this attitude in women so clearly. An average looking women recently joined the group and you would think, from her dealings with men, that she was mute in. Then yesterday, she was introduced to a good looking guy from another floor and you would think she was on coke. Al giggles and gushing. I've seen this so many times over the years and this attitude just leads to problems with the men they attract and eventually buying into the feminist claptrap above.

Set realistic sights in men and there are plenty of good ones available. I've seen the other side of a lot of men when their guard down and this is sound advice, but I'm swimming against the tide.
  79. Commander Groovechild from Canada writes: I don't understand the comment that this lady's only asset is her body. In fact I think she has a new Cadillac and $100,000. Add that to her youth and good looks, she's really not doing half bad. I agree that Playboy is a respectable publication that treats and compensates its girls accordingly. I recommend she take up bio-engineering or something funky like that for post-secondary education. I was just joking about her appearing in beer commercials.
  80. Albin Forone from Canada writes: A couple of people here actually remember Shannon Tweed, and that is very good news for Jayde. Girl, do what you're doing and things will (I really hope, since you're so damn pretty, although I'd really have to get to know you better and find out about your intelligence) happen for the best.
  81. Jennifer Rollison from Canada writes: Steve, feminism is not about how to get a man or any of that claptrap...it's about educating men and women that we don't have to fall into any of the traps...
  82. Tony . from Waterloo, Canada writes: Albin Forone from Canada writes: "A couple of people here actually remember Shannon Tweed, and that is very good news for Jayde."

Remember Shannon Tweed? I had a HUGE crush on her when I was about 8!

As for Jayde, full props to her, some people may not like Playboy much but it is one of the worlds most widely distributed magazines.

Personally the photo of her isn't much to my liking, WAY too much airbrushing. I think they even airbrushed the leaves behind her to make them look smoother! She's probably a very attractive woman in the real world, but in the picture she looks more like a kids toy then a real person. Unfortunately that is pretty much the norm for magazines (pretty much all magazines, not just the 'mens magazines' like Playboy).
  83. Sissy Schuss from Canada writes: Since she is Canadian will PB print a split run edition?
  84. The Bubble from Canada writes: She's my new wallpaper.
  85. Joe V from Canada writes: Sue Hickey from Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada writes: "Once again women are duped into presenting themselves as little more than sex objects."

Guess what: as a sexually-reproducing species, every single human man and woman is a sex object. And, as with most of the millions of other sexually reproducing species on this planet, humans undertake sexual selection; we select mates with traits that we most desire in our offspring. Unfortunately for your crabby self, beauty is one of those traits. Most humans are aware of it, otherwise we would be extinct.
  86. Allen Jones from Canada writes: I think that Sue Hickey should chill out a little. Sex object? Yes, Jayde Nicole probably is for most pubescent boys and a few pubescent men. Is she a Barbie doll in the flesh? Yes, again. I'm more concerned about girls trying to achieve her incredible proportions than about her being a sex object.

We are all driven by sex and sex objects come in all (or is that both) genders, ages and appearances. Paul Newman for example, has been a sex object for decades. George Clooney and Brad Pitt are both considered sex objects. How about Ashton Kutcher? He married a cougar!

So Sue, please lighten up and embrace sexuality. This mantra of women as sexual victim is getting a little old. Women are much stronger than that.
  87. Justin Kase from Victoria, Canada writes: Flaunt it while you got it girl!
