Woman of Reason from London, Canada writes: If I had four million or so to spare I would opt for an interesting, medium sized, ecological friendly home. I would not spend my cash on a generic McMansion with a heated driveway. I would be embarrassed to live in that monstrosity.

Mike Quinlan from Gatineau QC, Canada writes: This builder is in touch with "people's needs". Which people? How many Canadian households can afford such a home? Every now and then the Globe serves up stories that normalize and glorify excessive consumption. This one is up there with the story that ran not that long ago, lauding women for now repairing and not just replacing their $400 jeans. This was championed as being environmentaly progressive. Meanwhile in the real world, Wal-Mart keeps racking up record sales which include 15 to 30 dollar jeans

Pierre-Yves P from Toronto, Canada writes: Interesting to see to which market segment a 'Liberal' newspaper chooses to cater... and I agree with the other poster, this joint sucks, if that`s all you can get for the money: boring, nouveau-riche, impersonal, totally devoid of that magic touch called 'charm'. I guess when you have money, you don't need good taste.

Alastair james Berry from Nanaimo BC CANADA, Canada writes:
Wonderful news.........We need more wealthy people in CANADA and a whole lot less poor people...........
I have just been contacted by a real estate agent in Dubai where literally hundreds of palatial homes are being built, each with it's own sea front water access, (Try Googling DUBAI PALM ISLAND DEVELOPMENTS or some such)..........The high speed high way is elevated and has limited access.
In my travels it now seems that several countries are away ahead of North America and the divergence is increasing.
The difference, say, between the port City of Vancouver and the port City of Shenzhen, is so fantastic as to be almost unbelievable.
Vancouver looks positively Victorian and Dowdy in comparison.
My mother, long departed, used to say "God obviously loves poor people, why else would he have made so many?"
I'm not sure that God doesn't like the wealthy too after looking at all the wonderful accomodation being built for them!- Posted 13/05/08 at 4:43 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Mike B from Canada writes: Alistair Berry, Some places you mention may seem far ahead of Vancouver, but all you see are the surface. Try digging a bit deeper into the underbelly of Shenzhen - it's not really that developed, or even close to any city or town in Canada. See what happens to the garbage and sewage in Shenzhen. Take a walk off the main drag and see how the people live - the people that keep the city and the export markets humming along.
You also mention Dubai. A lot like Potemkin's village. A lot of flash, not a lot of substance. All these waterfront homes are nothing close to being good quality craftsmanship, and for only 2 million CAD.
When was the last time you believed an International Real Estate Agent? try googling Deyaar Properties as well.- Posted 14/05/08 at 6:25 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
