Hezbollah takes control of half of Beirut
BEIRUT Hezbollah, the militant Shia movement supported by Iran and Syria, was in control of half of Beirut Friday after easily routing forces loyal to Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's Western-backed government.
In a startling display of military prowess, Hezbollah fighters rapidly overran positions held by Druze and Sunni Muslim fighters and forced the pro-government Future Television off the air by setting its studios ablaze.
