Hezbollah takes control of half of Beirut
BEIRUT — Hezbollah, the militant Shia movement supported by Iran and Syria, was in control of half of Beirut Friday after easily routing forces loyal to Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's Western-backed government.
In a startling display of military prowess, Hezbollah fighters rapidly overran positions held by Druze and Sunni Muslim fighters and forced the pro-government Future Television off the air by setting its studios ablaze.
