asdf asdf from Canada writes: Arent these cynical comments getting a little old? Leafs management is not happy to be losing. It's not as if they can just spend more money and start winning again.. they spend at the salary cap. At least present tangible ideas on how the leafs can improve if you're going to call them losers.

Oh Toronto.
It just never ends, does it?
If MLSE hires Nonis you're in for many more years of a world of hurt.
I mean, it's not even fun anymore picking on the Leafs.
They're truly pathetic.
Like a dying animal you just want to put them out of their misery.
The Leafs and Nonis?
I am so sorry for you.
My condolences.

I think Nonis is a bright young lad. I just would't have given him the keys to a Lambourgihini yet.
Let him practise on a Ford first.
There is a reason why Ken Holland is doing so well in Detroit. He paid his dues and learn his lessons at the feet of the old pros.- Posted 09/05/08 at 6:32 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

No Party party from Van City, Canada writes: Nonis will make Toronto a good team....in 20 years. You have to wait for him to not sign anyone until the season has almost started. This way he scramble to get a full roster and can overpay for people he should have signed a long time ago.
Next he will replace your plumbers with more plumbers. (Isbister for Bulis), (Ritchie for Smolinski)...what the hell happened to Bulis anyways?
I think Cowan should go to wherever Nonis goes,...seriously...1 assist in 46 games.- Posted 09/05/08 at 7:19 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jasper the Black Lab from Vancouver and Elsewhere, Canada writes: Jan Bulis played this year for Mytishi Khimik in the Russian Super League:
57 games played
17 goals
31 assists
48 points

Maybe Nonis can re-sign him to an NHL contract.- Posted 09/05/08 at 7:41 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: There are rumors that MLSE has been meeting with Madame Zara, a Spadina Avenue spiritualist, in the hope of evoking the ghost of 'Punch' Imlach. Now if you remember Imlach you remember when the Maple Leafs were a respected and competitive team...and we also used rotary phones and rabbit ears for our TV sets. MLSE is not simply the laughing stock of the NHL. The English language does not contain words to describe their incompetence. As for Mr. Nonis, his track record--or more properly lack thereof--speaks for itself.

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Actually Dave the Rave Nonis is no worse a pick than Armstrong. Just because the equally (ownership wise) dysfunctional Canucks let him go doesn't mean he is a bad exec.
If I am choosing between Nonis, Campbell, Smith, Ferguson... I would go with Nonis... at least he wasn't willing to sell the farm to make the playoffs and lose in the first round.
Didn't he engineer the trade that brought Luongo to Vancouver? Nuff said after that one.
Still like Nill out of Detroit and can't believe they won't let him go... with Stevie Y there I don't see any future for him.
Cheers- Posted 09/05/08 at 9:12 PM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: The Luongo trade, ah yes. One of the most boneheaded moves Mike Keenan ever made in his disastrous tenure with the Panthers. Does Nonis deserve the credit for that no-brainer?

wayne powers from saskatoon, writes: Here is your exhaustive search for a new GM. "Hey Gordo an iron or a wood, I'm not sure, oh wait a sec my phone is buzzing" a few nods and hmms later Richard is back to the big decision a wood or iron. Gordo suggests a wood. "well that's it Burky is tied up for the next year, you sure about a wood"
Gordo "What does it matter wood or iron you will get about the same result'
Richard " I guess you're right, so how about that other guy from Vancouver, he sound ok with you"
Gordo " same as the club choice isn't it big B or the other guy same result, would you speed it up a bit, I'd like to finish early today and get to the cottage"- Posted 10/05/08 at 11:25 AM EDT | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Hey JC you are correct our Canucks are a bag full too.
Guys and Leaf lovers--That M/L team is beyond 'strange'!
Going to stop knocking the Leafs until they improve to ECHL level.
If Hamilton had a franchise the Leafs would win the Cup a year later.
Going to Church tomorrow will Pray for Toronto and have a beer later.

A. Quebecer from Canada writes: The only thing that might be worse than an MLSE article in the G&M with everything else going on in sports are idiots like Ottawa Resident posting on such a story about how the G&M should be "ashamed" of themselves for writing it. People should feel shame for a lot of things. Murder, abuse, cheating on spouses and neglecting children yes, bad hockey coverage, no. One article out of how many in the HOCKEY section that covers the Leafs in a Canadian paper whose largest resdership base is in Toronto hardy constitutes poor hockey coverage. As per the other sports, they have entire sections for themselves. Finaly, everytime you cick on a Toronto stroy that on priniple you think should NOT be in the paper, you are included in the statistics the G&M use to sell ad space. Every time you post, the same happens. Often (Not always I grant you) it is the same deuche bags that tell Toronto fans they are idiots for not boycotting the Leafs and that the Leafs will not get better wthout a fan revolt who continue to support the G&M by posting on the same Leaf stories they want banished. You want a different G&M sports section? Write a letter to the edditor and stop reading. Every time you post, you only make the G&M better able to sell itself. That said, as someone who is ejoying the rediculous soap opera that is MLSE, thank you.
